I plugged the WiiM Pro into my amp, ethernet, and the power connection. I was able to see the new device in the Wiim Home app, and set it up.

However, now that it's up and running, I do not see it as an AirPlay receiver/destination on any of my devices. I see no evidence of it's AirPlay support, am I missing something?

Have you tried adding it to the Apple Home app as per this link and see if that helps?

I have, but it doesn't show up. But AirPlay doesn't require Home or HomeKit functionally. But maybe the fact that it's not showing up there is indicative of the same root cause.

I have not set up HomeKit for Pro and Pro+. They show up on sound device list with iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS across my home network - two sets of wifi network and a wired network. Perhaps, full reset or power cycle can help resolving the issue.

Thanks I have done that. It turns out that what I have is a WiiM Pro Essential Edition. A product that doesn’t exist anywhere on the WiiM website, Internet searches find practically nothing, and has the same model number as the regular edition. However, it doesn’t support AirPlay!

So that’s awesome. The EBay listing didn’t state it was the Essential Edition but used the right model number (since it’s the same!) and simply didn’t mention AirPlay (but I always trust manufacturers specs over eBay descriptions 😭)

Yeah, after the kerfuffle over the non availability of airplay on the ultra when it came out, these “essential edition” models would briefly turn up on Amazon then just as quickly disappear with nary a mention. I’d guess there aren’t that many out there, you unfortunately just seem to have landed with one…
