Hey guys. I upgraded my Echo Link to a Wiim Pro. Everything's been pretty good so far, just trying to dial in audio settings.

I have one thing that's really bothering me though. While on my phone and in the wiim mobile app I can control the volume via the side buttons on my phone. Once I leave the app I can no longer control the volume with said buttons. The volume slider will still go up and down on my phone but nothing will happen on wiims end. Anyone have a fix for this?

I have the Wiim remote which works great but I don't want to always have to go inside to grab it. Wiim is the center of my outdoor audio system. Appreciate your time, thank you.

Hi,

Are you using streaming?

In the case of Amazon music, if you use the Amazon music app to cast play, you can control it with the volume buttons even if the phone screen is off.

Bumping this back up as unbelievably this is still an issue. Coming into warm weather and going to start using my outdoor audio more and having to get to the actual player screen of the wiim app is pretty annoying.

I have a remote on the golf cart which helps but more than a few times I'm caught in a situation where I need to turn the volume down somewhat quickly and I can't because I have to get through five button taps/screens to get there.

I don't know whether this is on Wiims end or Googles but it seems like it should be figured out in 2024. Why do simple things always have to be hard.

If I'm on the player screen the physical volume controls on the side of the phone will control the audio level. Tap once to get into the settings and those buttons no longer work. Unlock the phone to your home screen and the physical buttons do not control the audio. You have to get to the player screen again.

Anyone have a fix for this yet?

Volume operates the same way on all these phones I've tested. Unfortunately I don't have any other brands/OS to try it on.

WiiM or Google, it doesn't matter much. Your phone is stuffed with apps (including system apps) that might output sound. Google already differentiate between alarms, notifications and general playback. But with no app being in the foreground (or even worse: another app being in the foreground), how should your phone guess that right now you want the buttons to operate on the WiiM Home app?

The next best solution could probably be a "widget" or "media control". People have asked for it several times, but so far there is no indication of it coming. If you like the idea go ahead and upvote the respective feature requests:

You did see the picture attached that while I'm in the Wiim app the volume doesn't work right?

Edit: saying my phone can't understand what's happening because I'm trying to play some music seems a little ridiculous.

I can have my phone locked in my pocket and be talking to my neighbor about a random obscure branded lawn chair and the next time I open Facebook there's an ad for it there. But my volume control can't work?

That is the current specification of the WiiM app. The physical button volume control only works on the now playing screen and 4 menu screen (Browse, Device, Search, Setting).

(EDIT: Basically, assume that the volume control does not work on user-editable screens.)

Please submit a feature request through the feedback section of the WiiM app. You can also use Alexa cast with the Amazon Music app as mentioned above.

Take your time and re-read my post. You didn't intend to be impolite, did you?

In line with the group rules and ethic, please keep comments courteous. Thanks

I just tried changing my Amp volume using the phone volume controls and it seems to work from anywhere in the WiiM app. I wasn't listening but a volume indicator popped up and I could see the bar moving.

As per the screen shot posted by the OP, I could not control the volume in the device settings screen on my Android. But I don't know about iOS.
