Hello everyone,

I’m Jason, and I recently joined the team working on the WiiM forums and community spaces. You’ll see me around in discussions, helping where I can and, just as importantly, listening.

My focus is making sure the feedback, questions, and ideas from this community make their way back into WiiM. The forum is one of the best places to understand how people are actually using our products in the real world, and my role is to help connect those insights to the teams that can act on them.

A bit about me. I’ve spent a lot of time in tech communities over the years, and I’ve always enjoyed the intersection of people, hardware, and experimentation. I’m also a big music fan. Lately I’ve been spending more time with vinyl, and I recently checked out the Gorillaz “Kong” experience in LA, which was a pretty wild blend of music and immersive tech.

I’m currently building out my own WiiM setup at home, so I’m learning alongside many of you and will probably have a few questions of my own along the way.

I’m based in California, so feel free to tag me during the daytime here if you need a quick response.

Most importantly, I’m here as a resource. If something feels confusing, missing, or just not quite right, I want to hear about it. Those conversations are what help improve the experience for everyone.

To start things off, I’d love to hear from you. What’s one thing you wish had been clearer when you first got started with WiiM?

Looking forward to being part of the community.

Welcome, Jason. Great to see another happy WiiM face here!

With regard to your question, I was initially confused by inconsistencies in manuals and help documentation etc., but these have since been improved greatly. Right now, I'd personally like to see more up to date details about the WHA updates and firmware updates. Often times we receive versions that differ from those gazetted, which arrive with no details or explanation as to what might have changed.

I refer you to this thread

Doing a manual for dummies would be a good start then test it on a few people who have no idea of how this stuff works. Testing it on younger people is not going to work because they use this sort of technology every day.

I wish I had done more research so I would have been aware that the Pro Plus firmware was very immature and have been aware of the odd hardware design choices. Specifically the lack of a coaxial digital input, the use of a non-standard size 12V trigger jack, the reversed left and right channel RCA jack locations on the back of the unit and the fact that the RCA jacks only fit slim barreled connectors.

The good news is that the Pro Plus software issues that I initially experienced have been 99% resolved since then and a year later when it was time for another streamer I bought an Ultra. This Ultra seemingly has a long way to go in terms of firmware. Right now I am 'stuck' with a firmware release from June 2025 in order to have functioning Chromecast.

While not an issue for me, I think WiiM would greatly benefit from posting setup, and use videos. I know a number of folks interested in streaming but don't know where to start.

I am currently using Ultra's firmware beta version released March 4th..and latest official one is from Jan 23rd

What issues are were tou experiencing with Chromecast ? Which app did you use to cast to Ultra?

Here's the thread and my original post from December 23, 2025:

I have an Intel iMac running macOS Sequoia 15.7.3. I am trying to use the Renderer on VLC 3.0.21 to send the output to my WiiM Ultra.

The Ultra appears as a Renderer option. If I select No redender in VLC, audio plays through the iMac. If I choose the Ultra in the VLC Renderer, the words Google Cast a and the Google Cast icon displays on the Ultra screen. I then hear a short tone from the speakers, then no sound. The display then switches to a Cast icon in the upper left corner with a house icon in the upper right corner (plus a few other things on the display). After a number of seconds the clock and date display on the Ultra screen but still no sound.

Fix the WiiM Home program in the PC.

It keeps dropping the Tidal Connect connection and then I have to go into Home, connect to the Ultra device I want and then toggle -in settings- the "Preferred DNS Server".

When I do that, the Ultra device appears on my Tidal Connect "cast" in Tidal...

When I run the Tidal in the Chromecasts or Android machines I have no such issues.

I got four Ultras and one Sound.

Welcome Jason! 🤩

Not much to say from my side: Except, this (Pro+) was the most brilliant product I ever bought when it comes to easiness of installation! In 15 minutes, everything worked out! This has never happened before! 👌🏻🚀👏🏻😊
ALSO: in this 2 years, since I have it, so many new features came along and work meanwhile, really really well! Congrats!! 🎉🤩
It always can get better, of course, and I agree to some of the statements, that new features are not explained well etc. But compared to the rest, this is a minor issue. I am a big fan of you guys at WiiM and your product of course and I am glad that I bought this brilliant streamer!

Oh, one more thing. NO AUTOMATIC UPDATES.

IMHO, when I reach a point of operation with my stuff, I prefer to make them static. Changes always break things... like when my LG TVs updated and broke the start up interface with the Rokus...
