Ah! That explains it, then. I got my first ever external DAC last Friday - the Topping DX5 ii - and have been having severe conniptions due to the issues I was having connecting the Ultra to it via USB. I was genuinely ready to throw up my hands, admit defeat and send it back, and the only thing that stopped me from returning it, well, two things, first of all I bought it direct from Shenzhen Audio and balked at what I thought was going to be a ball-ache of a return, and secondly, the various problems I encountered were intermittent hence I was convinced it was something I was doing, something I wasn’t getting, that meant the Ultra would, and then wouldn’t, let me cast to it, and would, and then wouldn’t, output a signal to the Topping vis USB. This was all to my dog’s benefit because whenever I begin to lose my mind over a seemingly simple audio issue I take him for a walk to calm down and invariably resolve the issue on my return, but the USB connection issues between the Ultra and the Topping really tested my patience. I doubt anyone will be surprised to learn that when they weren’t connecting all it took to resolve it was powering off the Ultra and then it would all work upon powering it back on, but this was obviously incredibly frustrating - as an aside the addition of the Topping has improved the sound so much that I’ve removed my subwoofer! Talk about a night and day improvement, and this is to a set up that already sounded superb! And my Fyne Audio F701 2-way, 200mm concentric speakers, and Icon Audio ST 30SE integrated valve amp sound like HEAVEN.

I’m sure @slartibartfast will be happy on this update since he’s one biggest fans of room correction and eq. I can’t want to get this update to try it out. Room correction to fix room issue in combination with preset graphic for personal preference.

I had simply swapped to Optical.

Wait…

You have a WiiM Amp but still use USB output? Curious now about your setup.

The usb on amp can be used to external dac which is nice upgrading dac of your choice instead replacing the amp itself. The beauty of flexible wiim device.

Right, I understand that; I was just confused about paying for a full Amp if you're not using the built-in amp. Might as well just use a Pro or Pro Plus instead of Amp or Amp Pro.

Not really. You would still need a new amp to plug the external DAC into. You can use the USB for a headphone amp though.

Why do you think I am using the USB output then? @Smartplug didn't mention it.
I'm guessing I misinterpreted your post #6 as saying that you would be using this update to fix your USB output if the update was for WiiM Amp...I completely glossed over the fact that this was pertaining to the EQ combined with RoomFit, and not to the USB output fix. My mistake.

Yeah, I did that as well, and coax, and I have to say that, along with the USB when it deigned to work, all three options sounded really good. In fact, to my ears they were indistinguishable from each other sq-wise, but I have to admit I lack your sanguinity around connectivity and functionality issues. In short, if one of the purported options for connectivity between the Ultra and an external DAC doesn’t work, then frankly that isn’t good enough for me, plain and simple, especially when you factor in how much cash and time we spend in order to listen to our music in the most satisfying way possible, hence I’m all for this update. It actually wouldn’t have been so frustrating if the USB connectivity just didn’t work at all, like not even once, but the fact of it being intermittent meant I found it even more of a wind up than I usually would. Still, it’s all good now, or at least I hope it will be. Kudos to WiiM, though, for getting on top of issues and shortcomings as quickly as they do. I can think of a hell of a lot of companies and corporations that would do well to take a leaf out of their book customer service-wise.

Yeah well to be honest, I wasn’t sure that the WiiM was the problem. I thought it could be an issue with my miniDSP, and I bought that thing used, so I expected no way to fix it, and resigned myself to just using optical instead. Had I ever figured the WiiM was the issue, I’d have at least put in a ticket.
