Wiim Ultra Sound Quality

Just set up the WiiM today, using only headphones. Having had the Astell & Kern CA1000 I was a little underwhelmed with the audio quality, particularly with mid range and the sound stage. I am using HiFi Man Sundara headphones.

How could I improve the quality, would I be wise to add an amp and use the headphone out from there? Or use an external DAC.

Any advise much appreciated.

Like all plannar headphones they are best with a dedicated headphone amp.

I have to ask: why the Ultra if only using headphones? A Pro with a dedicated DAC/amp sounds like a better option.

Maybe not exclusively streaming? hdmi, usb hdd, phono.
Maybe waants the display?
Numerous reasons, but yes, I agree, a dedicated hp dac/amp (with any wiim) is a better option than ultra headphone out, but the ultra also enables the use of usb out to such a dac/amp.
