I still like to browse through CDs at charity shops (thrift stores in the US) and you can still pick up some great bargains. I’ve recently found a local shop where you can pick up 10 CDs for £1.00! so picked up this pile to rip to my NAS.

What bargain CDs have you managed to get recently and where from?

Unfortunately, most of my recent "bargain CDs" probably cost more than when they were new, and often have to be imported from Australia, Canada, Germany, and United States, etc, which certainly puts the price up when you include shipping fees, and VAT.

Do they play okay? I used to buy tape cassettes back in the 80s before I bought my first record deck but would still make tapes to play in my car. Now I just buy CDs to burn to NAS.
Yeah they play fine. Some don't but most do. They're fun to collect. Records have gone far too serious and expensive!

More for the collection:

Gabrielle, Example, Mika, Paul Young, The Wonderstuff, Mansun, The Levellers, Luke Vibert, Future Sound Of London, Skee-Lo, The Devine Comedy, They Might Be Giants and Jamiroquai.

5 CDs for £1, 50p or one pound each…

Forgive me, but I am not sure how this thread is of relevance to a WiiM forum. Or learn anything from it beyond the fact that some charity shops sell CDs.

It's in the "let's talk music" subforum where WiiM owners share the music they are listening to, amongst other things - look at the previous thread topics. Given we use our WiiM devices for their main purpose of listening to music from a variety of sources, it's entirely relevant

You know you can plug a cd player (or cassette player) into a wiim device? You can apply all that roomfitty, peq goodness if you want

If you really want, you can link it up with other wiims and stream it round your house.

If you really, really want you can connect your Bluetooth speaker to your wiim that is playing the music on the cd (or cassette) and play it on that instead.

Fair enough. Live and let live. It just struck me as a particularly futile thread.

It's more there to engender the "community" side of the forum rather than anything specifically to do with WiiM hardware or software. I'm sure you share details of music you like and where you found it with friends - this is no different. But like all sections of the forum, you don't need to read or participate in it if it doesn't interest you. Cheers :)

It does seem to be a bit futile. I get the feeling most people in the WiiM world rent their music these days rather than own it.

The only Genesis albums available on streaming services are the remixes, not even just remasters. So it depends what you listen to. Also some albums are there one minute and gone the next.

Only four remixes, and one has the original version. What's the point of listening to the original versions? The musical material remains the same, and which mastering you listen to is a matter of taste. I prefer to simply listen to music in accessible quality than to hunt down CDs and then wait for delivery. That's for fans of specific bands, not for music lovers.

Which streaming service is that?
