YouTube Music Rolling Out to WiiM Devices

YTM Amp Ultra (Facebook Post) (2).png

We’re excited to share that YouTube Music has started rolling out this month to WiiM devices, beginning with Ultra and Amp Ultra. A YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required for this integration, which brings access to over 100 million official tracks, curated playlists, remixes, live performances, and fan favorites directly to your WiiM streamers and streaming amplifiers.

Which devices are supported?

YouTube Music will be available on:
  • WiiM streamers: Pro, Pro Plus, Ultra (excluding the WiiM Mini)
  • WiiM amplifiers: Amp, Amp Pro, and Amp Ultra
  • WiiM CI MOD S and CI MOD A80
  • WiiM Edition Audio Pro will receive YouTube Music in a future update
Please note YouTube Music is not available for WiiM Mini due to hardware limitations.

How it works

Just like with other streaming services, you'll control YouTube Music through the WiiM Home app directly. The integration works seamlessly with all the features you already use - voice control, EQ settings, stereo pairing, WiiM remotes, and room grouping.

Getting started

Make sure you're running the latest version of the WiiM Home app and that your device firmware is up to date. YouTube Music is rolling out to WiiM devices over the next few weeks, so if you don’t see it available yet, just give it some time. YouTube Music will appear in your list of available streaming services. Just add your YouTube Music Premium account to your WiiM device, and you’re ready to rock! Please note that a YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required.

This partnership gives you access to YouTube Music's massive catalog, including those hard-to-find live versions and remixes that make the platform unique. And as always, you get WiiM's quality and flexible connectivity options.

Thanks to everyone who's been requesting this integration. We heard you, and we're thrilled to make it happen.

For setup questions or if you run into any issues, drop a comment below and we'll help you out.

Happy listening!

I take it voice control only operates via Google Assistant and not the WiiM remote nor Alexa as YouTube Music isn’t an Alexa-supported service?

It won't be able to start playing using Alexa, but if a stream is currently active Alexa may be able to skip to the next track or pause.

Mmm, I’ll check that out on YTM when it lands. Alexa won’t be aware of any audio playing if it hasn’t initiated it by voice or via AlexaCast. For example, if I play something on my Ultra like Amazon music which Alexa supports, it’ll respond to Alexa voice commands. However, if I play Qobuz on my Ultra and ask Alexa to pause, it gives an error ‘I can change the playback mode only when music is playing’ as it doesn’t recognise the stream as the device is playing an non-Alexa supported service.

Looks like this might be the case. I'll check in with the team and see if there's something coming down the pipeline.

Excluding Mini, really?? Sorry, I've been waiting here for months for YTM support because it was announced, and now this exception. I hope it's just a typo. I'm wondering what hardware limitations those could be?

Not a typo. Explicitly mentioned twice.
It's got limited CPU and memory resources - there are others things that it can't do that the other wiims can.

sorry but you bought the device with the properties specified at the time you purchased. you can hope ! for further development via firmware, but life shows disappointments. each and every day.
the mini has hardware limitations. a well known fact. this does not only apply to ytm. exchange it for a pro and everything will be good again.

The hardware limitations are that the Mini only has 128MB of RAM and a dual core processor compared to 512MB and quadcore processor of the Pro and later models. Because of those limitations it already has missed out on Squeezelite and Qobuz Connect amongst other things. WiiM can’t fit a quart into a pint pot unfortunately…

Well, there's no point in continuing this discussion here, since we're only dealing with WiiM believers or dealers anyway. I had been hoping for a long time for this announced integration for existing devices, and unfortunately I was disappointed. YouTube Music Premium is only available for WiiM Premium devices. Since the included charger “LOL” has already given up the ghost, it probably won't be long before the device itself does too. Then it's time to say goodbye, because as they say in Germany, “There are plenty of other fish in the sea.”

Other fish? Such as?

While I can understand your disappointment, it’s really no secret that the WiiM Mini is limited in resources compared to its siblings (maybe there’s a clue in the name?) , nor is there any need to disparage other WiiM users because you didn’t research its capabilities sufficiently. Enjoy your fishing, but be ready for disappointment there too…

really not a hires fan here. for the resolution delivered by ytm any bluetooth connection should be more than sufficient. if the amplifier and speakers are correspondingly powerful it can even sound quite good.
