YouTube Music Rolling Out to WiiM Devices

YTM Amp Ultra (Facebook Post) (2).png

We’re excited to share that YouTube Music has started rolling out this month to WiiM devices, beginning with Ultra and Amp Ultra. A YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required for this integration, which brings access to over 100 million official tracks, curated playlists, remixes, live performances, and fan favorites directly to your WiiM streamers and streaming amplifiers.

Which devices are supported?

YouTube Music will be available on:
  • WiiM streamers: Pro, Pro Plus, Ultra (excluding the WiiM Mini)
  • WiiM amplifiers: Amp, Amp Pro, and Amp Ultra
  • WiiM CI MOD S and CI MOD A80
  • WiiM Edition Audio Pro will receive YouTube Music in a future update
Please note YouTube Music is not available for WiiM Mini due to hardware limitations.

How it works

Just like with other streaming services, you'll control YouTube Music through the WiiM Home app directly. The integration works seamlessly with all the features you already use - voice control, EQ settings, stereo pairing, WiiM remotes, and room grouping.

Getting started

Make sure you're running the latest version of the WiiM Home app and that your device firmware is up to date. YouTube Music is rolling out to WiiM devices over the next few weeks, so if you don’t see it available yet, just give it some time. YouTube Music will appear in your list of available streaming services. Just add your YouTube Music Premium account to your WiiM device, and you’re ready to rock! Please note that a YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required.

This partnership gives you access to YouTube Music's massive catalog, including those hard-to-find live versions and remixes that make the platform unique. And as always, you get WiiM's quality and flexible connectivity options.

Thanks to everyone who's been requesting this integration. We heard you, and we're thrilled to make it happen.

For setup questions or if you run into any issues, drop a comment below and we'll help you out.

Happy listening!

Now do Apple or is that simply a stream too far?
Cheers
I am sure WiiM would love to offer Apple Music as a service. But I don’t think Apple makes Music available to third parties as a service. The closest they get is their Android app, which allows a streaming device running Android OS to offer an Apple Music app.

Given Spotify’s significantly larger market share, I think offering AM as a service would be a good move. Apple does this for AppleTV+; I have an ATV+ button on my Roku remote.

Rather than shovelling low res services into the app wouldn’t it be a better idea to concentrate on high res only (which is what WiiM devices are supposed to be about) ? Fixing the Plex integration would be a good start.

I thing WiiM is really like, “the people’s,” streaming company, with products like the Sub Pro and the various affordable streamers. Focusing on expanding service options makes sense in that regard. They’re not out there selling 4-figure premium streamers which would make more sense to focus solely on high-res (just my own opinion, at least).

While not necessarily disagreeing re low res services, Spotify has been there since the start. Plus there have been a lot of requests for Sirius XM which again doesn’t appear to support hires.

Also, it’s clear that WiiM worked closely with the Google/YTM devs on YTM and while Plex have been making the right noises, it doesn’t appear that there’s been a lot of actual activity there.

And while I was under the understanding that the Apple Music implementation on Sonos and possibly Tesla was the usual 256kbps AAC, more recent info seems to suggest that was updated to CD quality last year. Indeed the Apple Music Service (as opposed to the Apple Music app) on Eversolo is reputed to support just CD quality. Other vendors like Hifi Rose I believe offer similar. Given that others seem to have managed to achieve this, and given the major streaming services’ catalogs seem to comprise around 90% CD quality content, I wonder if WiiM pursued the use of the API they use and initially supported just CD quality would satisfy Apple Music users until such times as a hi res version was made available.

I can’t see the point of spending £/$/€10+ per month for anything less than CD quality when you can have CD/HiRes for just a few pennies more. I can tell the difference between lossy and lossless which is what we are really talking about.
Although I am firmly iOS over Android I think Apple Music may be the worst of the hires services available simply because Airplay 2 is such a dogs dinner compared to Airplay 1.

FiiO SR11 will fulfill your every AirPlay1 dream, and can just hook up to your WiiM streamer's Toslink input.

ytm is a useless gimmick for me. but the variety of videos is enough reason for me. the easiest if not the only way to see kimmel, colbert and others in germany.
german comedy, cars, general aviation, john darko, diy, rcme, and and and.
no annoying ads. enough reasons for me to spend this few €. you may have noticed the often used 'for me'. and i do not want to use a browser. i want to use the app on ios and on tv. you may have noticed the often used 'i'.

YT has a wealth of live sound source that is not available on other streaming services. I'm not listening to the sound quality, I just want to enjoy the music I like, so for me it is worth paying for it.

It kills two birds with one stone, as the ad in the videos also disappear 😄

I still don't believe that there is anyone who can distinguish well encoded 256kbps from CD quality. Unless he/she is only 5-15 years old and still has fresh unclouded hearing. It certainly only gives us (me at least) a good feeling if we listen uncompressed and only pay slightly more/the same for it.

Nevertheless, I have no interest in YT, but the argument from Wiimer is a good one.

Except right now it's only lossy compressed 128kbps. They haven't even enabled...full...quality YTM yet.

Agree. As a former Product Manager for a tech product, you prioritize the items on your roadmap that will generate the most revenue. They are thinking that YTM support will sell more boxes than other items on the roadmap, so that’s why it was prioritized.
