YouTube Music Rolling Out to WiiM Devices

YTM Amp Ultra (Facebook Post) (2).png

We’re excited to share that YouTube Music has started rolling out this month to WiiM devices, beginning with Ultra and Amp Ultra. A YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required for this integration, which brings access to over 100 million official tracks, curated playlists, remixes, live performances, and fan favorites directly to your WiiM streamers and streaming amplifiers.

Which devices are supported?

YouTube Music will be available on:
  • WiiM streamers: Pro, Pro Plus, Ultra (excluding the WiiM Mini)
  • WiiM amplifiers: Amp, Amp Pro, and Amp Ultra
  • WiiM CI MOD S and CI MOD A80
  • WiiM Edition Audio Pro will receive YouTube Music in a future update
Please note YouTube Music is not available for WiiM Mini due to hardware limitations.

How it works

Just like with other streaming services, you'll control YouTube Music through the WiiM Home app directly. The integration works seamlessly with all the features you already use - voice control, EQ settings, stereo pairing, WiiM remotes, and room grouping.

Getting started

Make sure you're running the latest version of the WiiM Home app and that your device firmware is up to date. YouTube Music is rolling out to WiiM devices over the next few weeks, so if you don’t see it available yet, just give it some time. YouTube Music will appear in your list of available streaming services. Just add your YouTube Music Premium account to your WiiM device, and you’re ready to rock! Please note that a YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required.

This partnership gives you access to YouTube Music's massive catalog, including those hard-to-find live versions and remixes that make the platform unique. And as always, you get WiiM's quality and flexible connectivity options.

Thanks to everyone who's been requesting this integration. We heard you, and we're thrilled to make it happen.

For setup questions or if you run into any issues, drop a comment below and we'll help you out.

Happy listening!

@RyanWithWiiM, @WiiM Team, @WiiM Support,

There seems to be a problem with Youtube music playback. I have experienced sound drop and noise on several occasions.

Here is a source that can be reproduced with my Amp Ultra.

Please focus the ''Ocean's'' in this lyrics.

"Sometimes I take a drive out to the beach The ocean's my only real friend"

Playback of YTM at WHA.
Noise is audible.

Also dropping may occur when playing videos.

Is this related to the fact that WHA can only play 129 Kbps? Unfortunately, I can't continue to use YTM as it is now.
I will now send a ticket.
Hi @Wiimer,

We have found the root cause and will release a new firmware to fix it promptly.

Hi Team
Thanks as always for your great work 🤗
Hi, have you tried grouping the Ultra and Mini and trying YTM to the Ultra? I tried it very briefly last week and I think the Mini audio didn’t quite sound right. I’ll maybe give it another go…

Hi
I tried the Ultra and Amp Ultra group first, I didn't realize it at the time because the sound was coming from both devices.

Is that a Mini only issue?
I will try it tomorrow too.

Thanks. It might be a volume mismatch somewhere, I’ll need to go through all the appropriate settings…

That’s a shame, but having thought about it, I’m but sure how relevant it is.

The reason for having those separate music files is in case they’re not on streaming. If they’re not on streaming, and you’re using your WiiM, you’d use a USB or NAS anyway, not YTM.

Loading the files to YTM therefore only becomes useful when you’re away from home/your WiiM, so compatibility with your WiiM doesn’t come up.
Update: uploaded files can be played if you include them in a playlist. Another thing to note is that there's currently little point in uploading hi res tracks as YTM will convert them to 128/256kbps AAC on playback.

Edit: @Ethan.SS FYI - while you can't access uploaded files under a "Uploads" section in the YTM app, you can play them from a playlist. Cheers

Do you have an idea about when it will be release for the Wiim Amp?

And by the way, how did you do that? Is there a Youtube Music API now?

Just got the update on my wiim amp pro. Youtube music works well, but my tv volume control does not work when hdmi arc input is not selected. TCL roku tv with Google tv streamer attached. The wiim remote volume control works of course. The tv volume was working before the update. Recycled power to all units and reconnected all hdmi cables.

TV volume control can only work when the WiiM device input source is HDMI and connected to the HDMI ARC port on your TV. So you must switch to HDMI input on your WiiM device.

Not true. It was working before the update. As long as the tv was on, the tv volume control was working with the wifi input selected.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it did (although the volume control on our Samsung TV feels so uncomfortable that I often use the WiiM Voice Remote even for HDMI ARC).

I wonder if changing the HDMI/CEC settings has an influence on this.

I noticed this in the past where the volume control on apple TV would still affect WiiM volume even when not set to ARC input. I actually just figured this was a (harmless) bug.

I have always been using the AppleTV remote for volume on non-HDMI inputs. This works even when the AppleTV is in standby and the TV is off. I wonder if this is a classic case where the bug became the feature.

Doesn‘t work on my Amp Ultra when switched to another input besides HDMI ARC. But I can‘t say if it has worked with an older firmware, because I never had in mind to try it.
