YouTube Music Rolling Out to WiiM Devices

YTM Amp Ultra (Facebook Post) (2).png

We’re excited to share that YouTube Music has started rolling out this month to WiiM devices, beginning with Ultra and Amp Ultra. A YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required for this integration, which brings access to over 100 million official tracks, curated playlists, remixes, live performances, and fan favorites directly to your WiiM streamers and streaming amplifiers.

Which devices are supported?

YouTube Music will be available on:
  • WiiM streamers: Pro, Pro Plus, Ultra (excluding the WiiM Mini)
  • WiiM amplifiers: Amp, Amp Pro, and Amp Ultra
  • WiiM CI MOD S and CI MOD A80
  • WiiM Edition Audio Pro will receive YouTube Music in a future update
Please note YouTube Music is not available for WiiM Mini due to hardware limitations.

How it works

Just like with other streaming services, you'll control YouTube Music through the WiiM Home app directly. The integration works seamlessly with all the features you already use - voice control, EQ settings, stereo pairing, WiiM remotes, and room grouping.

Getting started

Make sure you're running the latest version of the WiiM Home app and that your device firmware is up to date. YouTube Music is rolling out to WiiM devices over the next few weeks, so if you don’t see it available yet, just give it some time. YouTube Music will appear in your list of available streaming services. Just add your YouTube Music Premium account to your WiiM device, and you’re ready to rock! Please note that a YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required.

This partnership gives you access to YouTube Music's massive catalog, including those hard-to-find live versions and remixes that make the platform unique. And as always, you get WiiM's quality and flexible connectivity options.

Thanks to everyone who's been requesting this integration. We heard you, and we're thrilled to make it happen.

For setup questions or if you run into any issues, drop a comment below and we'll help you out.

Happy listening!

Just got the update on my wiim amp pro. Youtube music works well, but my tv volume control does not work when hdmi arc input is not selected. TCL roku tv with Google tv streamer attached. The wiim remote volume control works of course. The tv volume was working before the update. Recycled power to all units and reconnected all hdmi cables.
What is your HDMI settings in the WiiM Home App?

Both settings shall be on for this to work.
The WiiM will then follow your TV volume but so will your TV.

I don't see how you can use the TV remote without changing the TV sound volume?

I have tried all the hdmi settings and it makes no difference with this problem. When I use the wiim tv app on my Google tv streamer, the volume on my Google remote does not work but the wiim remote works. It worked before the latest update. Today after the update it does not work. It's really not that big of a deal. I will wait till the next update to see if they sort it out.

Nice addition.
Hopefully soon you will be able to select your WiiM device from the YouTube Music app (or via the web browser)
You’ve always been able to do that to Chromecast capable WiiM devices from the YTM app or Chrome browser.

So glad with this.. hopefully soon available in the Wiim amp.
Thanks a lot Wiim 😊 😊 👍 👍 😊

In response to a query on Reddit, I raised a ticket to WiiM re the absence of options like play next/play last to add tracks to the YTM playing queue and they responded very quickly with “Currently, YouTube does not provide an API to support this feature. We are waiting for them to update it.” No idea how long Google/YTM will take to do that though as I have no experience of dealing with them on such matters.

Edit: I should also have said that WiiM confirmed : “YouTube Music has just released the first version of its API, and we are among the first to integrate it”, so perhaps we’re suffering a little from WiiM being at the forefront.

But isn't that different?
You stream the music from your foon or laptop isn't it, if you close the player/tab it stops playing?
Using Chromecast the audio is delivered directly to your device and doesn’t pass thru the phone like AirPlay does.

Re closing the player, I’ve had mixed results - I get the feeling at some point casting still tries to make contact with the control point and can fail if it doesn’t get further instructions.

I signed up for YouTube Music Premium and I was able to set it up inside the WiiM Home App without issue on my Pro Plus, after giving WiiM all the necessary account permissions! The interface seems good but I've not yet had a chance to play anything at an elevated volume. Nevertheless, it seems to be working as it should.

A side note: Spotify, which doesn't have full WiiM Home App integration, has just increased to AUD$15.99 per month. I was surprised and pleased to see that YTM was a little less at only AUD$12.99 per month.

I wonder if the WHA version will ever be made available for the free YTM accounts?

Anyway, thank you to WiiM for the extra features.

requirement of the Google/YTM API

Yes, it would seem so. I guess Google need a return on their development investment! 😂

Anyway, I've had a chance to try it out further now, and it seems great. I started with a live Dream Theater track followed by some Zeppelin. Was quite impressed. And with the YTM integration with the WHA, Group streaming was perfect with my WiiM Mini and the Echo speaker.1000001095.png

Help with the problem: I can't log in to Yoube Music Premium from the Wiim Home v.3.3.2 app. Wiim Pro device, firmware v.4.8.726839. The authorization page just reloads and nothing changes. I selected permissions to access Youtube Music Premium. I tried resetting the Wiim Home settings, but it didn't help.

Try logging out of the WiiM home app and back in, or delete and re-install the app.

If that fails, raise a ticket to WiiM via the more/feedback section in the app

Testing YouTube Music and grateful. But a bit frustrated that you can't make presets for any of the mixes and personal playlists, only the editorial ones.
