YouTube Music Rolling Out to WiiM Devices

YTM Amp Ultra (Facebook Post) (2).png

We’re excited to share that YouTube Music has started rolling out this month to WiiM devices, beginning with Ultra and Amp Ultra. A YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required for this integration, which brings access to over 100 million official tracks, curated playlists, remixes, live performances, and fan favorites directly to your WiiM streamers and streaming amplifiers.

Which devices are supported?

YouTube Music will be available on:
  • WiiM streamers: Pro, Pro Plus, Ultra (excluding the WiiM Mini)
  • WiiM amplifiers: Amp, Amp Pro, and Amp Ultra
  • WiiM CI MOD S and CI MOD A80
  • WiiM Edition Audio Pro will receive YouTube Music in a future update
Please note YouTube Music is not available for WiiM Mini due to hardware limitations.

How it works

Just like with other streaming services, you'll control YouTube Music through the WiiM Home app directly. The integration works seamlessly with all the features you already use - voice control, EQ settings, stereo pairing, WiiM remotes, and room grouping.

Getting started

Make sure you're running the latest version of the WiiM Home app and that your device firmware is up to date. YouTube Music is rolling out to WiiM devices over the next few weeks, so if you don’t see it available yet, just give it some time. YouTube Music will appear in your list of available streaming services. Just add your YouTube Music Premium account to your WiiM device, and you’re ready to rock! Please note that a YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription is required.

This partnership gives you access to YouTube Music's massive catalog, including those hard-to-find live versions and remixes that make the platform unique. And as always, you get WiiM's quality and flexible connectivity options.

Thanks to everyone who's been requesting this integration. We heard you, and we're thrilled to make it happen.

For setup questions or if you run into any issues, drop a comment below and we'll help you out.

Happy listening!

Testing YouTube Music and grateful. But a bit frustrated that you can't make presets for any of the mixes and personal playlists, only the editorial ones.
I can set one of my own playlists in my Library as a preset, or do you mean something different?

Edit: and I can do the same for a lot of stuff on the Music page…

You're right. I restarted the app and the option showed up, but at first it only appeared on the editorial ones.

I can't seem to use my own (recent) uploads from Youtube Music? YTM in browser does have this option, which I use a lot.

Not supported by the Google/YTM API provided to WiiM. You can access the tracks if they’re in a playlist though.

WiiM suggested they will progress this with Google to see if the latter will add support to their API.

Another service with such a weak integration vs the native app. I realise this is because of the API limitations but I really Spotify has the best integration where you just use the Spotify app, Qobuz Connect too.

That’s a typical limitation of streaming services’ APIs - they’re seldom if ever as feature rich as the native apps. At least WiiM has the Connect mechanisms you mention, as well as Squeezelite, Tidal Connect and uniquely, bit perfect Amazon Music AlexaCast.

I notice that the cast button on YouTube music only shows a 'real' chromecast device, eg. Nest hub. Other 'chromecast.' devices are missing.

Do you get the same from the YouTube Music app on your device? I wonder if it's just the browser interface.

It's the same with the YT music app (except the app also shows firetv stickl
My Android YTM app shows the WiiM device.

Make sure Allow 'Google Cast Service' is enabled in the Google Cast section of the WiiM app.

It's already enabled. But it also applies to other non-wiim chromecast devices. They all show in other cast enabled apps except for ytmusic.
Strange..
Have you already tried logging out of the YTM app or reinstalling it?

A few people are noticing a bitrate of 257kbps in the WiiM Home app for YTM - anyone here seeing that? My trial of YTM expired or I would have checked myself.

@RyanWithWiiM @WiiM Support @WiiM Team - has the API been updated to support high quality YTM now?
Yes, the YouTube Music team has found the issue and fixed it. Listeners should now be getting the high quality streams automatically without the need to do any changes on their end. The fix is rolling out last I heard, so if anyone isn't seeing improvement, give it a few more days and check again, as it might just not have hit 100% rollout yet.

Indeed, I start seeing YTM 257kbps/24bit/44.1kHz tracks via WiiM Home App. As far as I understand, 48kHz is the highest sampling when choosing the highest audio quality with native YTM app. I tried many tracks in my playlist that are at 48kHz. However, when I play them with WHA, they are shown as 44.1kHz.

@WiiM Support could you look into this? I believe the current maximum of YTM via WHA is not the highest quality.

I don’t think that matters as we’re dealing with a lossy 256kbps ogg vorbis(?) stream with YTM high quality. If you’re using Chromecast, it could well be that your mobile o/s is decoding and encapsulating that in a 48kHz PCM stream but as I’ve said before, it’s like Amazon packaging: the box may be large but that doesn’t impact the quality of the item inside.

Subscribed to YTM again today, and pleased to see 257kbps. Nice. At AUD$12.99 per month, YTM is (one of) the cheapest services available currently here in Oz.
