If one looks at sales numbers on Amazon, the product they need to drop immediately is the new Smart Speaker with display. Sales are half that of Vibelink.
It doesn't surprise me that their streamers out-sale the amps. Lots of people have an existing stereo and their only need is an added...
Just a note that when prior models were first released, one didn't see "sale" prices on them during Black Friday or other sales events for the new model even though other WiiM products were being discounted at the time. The Vibelink has now been out for about a year so it doesn't surprise me...
Nice list of the Ultra's superiorities but I still don't hear a difference. But, I'll also admit to being a cloth-eared Neanderthal, though one who enjoys his music. ;)
I'm generally open to people experimenting to see if a particular tweak or modification improves sound quality, but this rather strikes me as a solution in search of a problem. But, I'm also not a member of the audiophile club and refuse to join.
I have an Ultra and a Pro Plus and they sound the same to me. Prior to this I had a nice external DAC (Schiit Bifrost 2) and compared it back-to-back and level-matched when I got the WiiM units. Couldn't tell any difference so sold the Bifrost. I know other people claim they hear profound...
I agree -- the phono input on the Ultra is a nice feature. I've had my Ultra for about a year and a half and never used the phono input until a few days ago. My 8 year old grandson was over and had never seen a LP or 45. So, I hauled up the old Dual turntable from the basement, plugged it in...
Sounds like the one thing you haven't tried is a different power amp, using the Ultra as the preamp. If that combo was silent, it'd show there is some weird incompatibility between the Ultra and the Purifi amp. If the new combo continues to be noisy, then you're back to the Ultra One final...
Curious, do you have a friend with an iPhone or Android who would be willing to install the WiiM app for a short while in order to see if a different phone makes a difference? Just a though...
A couple of questions:
1) Is this a hissing sound like one would hear from a tape recorder or FM tuner in-between stations? Of is it a humming sound? Or static? I know you used the word "hiss" but in the past I've seen the word "hiss" used in other audio forums to describe a variety of different...
While I know there are a lot of different use-cases out there with some wanting this or that feature or others needing some glitch fixed, I'm trying to think of the last time an update fixed a problem for me or offered a change that directly improved my listening experience. It's been awhile...
Well, good luck then! Hope you get what you're after. For me, the WiiM's room correction feature made a nice improvement to the sound and I'm enjoying listening to my system more than ever.
Not sure of your point about not wanting the WiiM to do any room correction.
Are you saying you want no room correction at all or just want it done at a different spot? Whether DIRAC or internally in the WiiM, both are manipulating digital data with DIRAC just being a fancier version of what...
