‘Last Play’ event not recorded within Audirvana after High-Res file playback on WiiM Mini/Ultra devices

I’m experiencing an issue when streaming music from Audirvana (running on my Mac Mini) over WiFi to both my WiiM Mini and WiiM Ultra devices.

Problem:
When I play a high-resolution audio file within a playlist (higher than 44.1 kHz / 16-bit) via these WiiM devices, Audirvana often fails to record the ‘last play’ event for that track. When this occurs, no ‘Last Play’ events are recorded for any subsequent tracks that are played, even if they are standard, 44.1 kHz / 16-bit tracks. However, when I stream the same files to my Tivoli One (Gen 2) device over WiFi, the ‘Last Play’ event always records correctly within Audirvana. Audirvana debug information shows the High Res files are playing via UPnP to Tivoli One at their correct resolution (ie they are not being compressed).

What I have observed:

  • The ‘last play’ event works consistently for standard resolution files on all devices.
  • The failure occurs predominantly after playing high-res audio on WiiM devices.
  • WiiM devices are connected via WiFi; The Tivoli One device is also on the same network.
  • The issue persists across multiple firmware versions (please confirm if you recommend a particular version).
My setup:

  • Audirvana version: Origin 2.6.1 running on Mac Mini running Sequoia 15.5 operating system, streaming over UPnP.
  • WiiM Mini firmware: [4.6.719753 – Build date 11 June 2025]
  • WiiM Ultra firmware: [5.2.721349 – Build date 26 June 2025]
  • Network: WiFi (all devices on the same router)

Could you please advise if this is a known issue? Are there any recommended settings, firmware updates, or workarounds to ensure the “last play” event in Audirvana is reliably recorded after High-Res playback on WiiM devices?

In your audirvana query about “last play” and WiiM devices, Devialet Phantom II and KEF LS 50 speakers are also mentioned, so perhaps it’s a more general UPnP issue.

In very specific cases such as this, I think it’s imperative that when it occurs that you submit your audirvana logs via a bug report to them, as well as raising a ticket to WiiM via the WiiM home app so that they can similarly inspect your WiiM devices’ logs for clues as to the underlying cause. I would note that the query I link to does mention that UPnP implementations can vary from vendor to vendor and that incompatibilities or issues aren’t uncommon. However, allowing the suppliers to diagnose the available evidence might lead to a resolution. Good luck…

If you can hear the audio (proving WiiM has pulled the track from Audirvana) and can see track progress in Audirvana (meaning eventing/polling is working) then I'm not sure there's anything WiiM can do.

You need to understand what triggers a play event in Audirvana; I would have thought it's based on track progress (>X% played).

It doesn't appear to be a general UPnP issue because when I stream the same files to my Tivoli One (Gen 2) device over WiFi, the ‘Last Play’ event always records correctly within Audirvana. I can tell that the 'last play' event recording has failed because there is no track progress displayed in Audirvana for tracks that play subsequent to the failure.

I also note from the previously referenced audirvana query that an Audirvana forum contributor stated the 'last play' failure did not occur when playing from Audirvana over UPnP to a Chord Electronics 2Go. He asked the relevant question: Is it a software issue in Audirvana? Possibly but why do the Chord 2Go’s not suffer this issue but the other 2 streamers do?

So I'm wondering if there is a difference between the way UPnP is implemented between WiiM (and other vendors) versus Tivoli & Chord Electronics, because I'm getting different results within Audirvana between UPnP streaming devices that is otherwise difficult to explain.

Thanks for the advice. I will raise a ticket with WiiM to see if they can assist.

Assuming that Audirvana is also a UPnP server, what happens when you play the same tracks using a third-party UPnP control point e.g. BubbleUPnP or mconnect?

Have you tried with an older version of Audirvana (> 1 year old)?
