Adding a WiiM Mini to my Ultra system

I recently bought a WiiM Ultra which I use to feed my amp and speakers, using the USB input to play a library of around 2,500 albums on hard drive in FLAC form. It is working very well and I would like to extend this with a WiiM Mini in our kitchen. Presumably I would need active speakers (single or pair) for the kitchen. Would the Mini be able to play the USB files on the hard drive simultaneously as well as on the Ultra? Any thoughts on one speaker or two (we don't have a lot of space in the kitchen) and what would be a good budget speaker choice?

Sorry for the dumb questions, but I am just getting into this!

You can either group the Mini with the Ultra and play the same selection from the USB drive, or you can run them separately with each selecting its own music.

If you are in the USA, you might want to consider these speakers

And to make this perfectly clear: The WiiM Mini and the WiiM Ultra can play music from that hard drive simultaneously (by grouping them) or independently.

In particular, the Mini can play music from the USB disk connected to the Ultra while the Ultra plays something completely different or nothing at all. If you happen to have other DLNA enabled devices in your house or a smartphone app (like e.g. BubbleUPnP on Android), even those can access the music on the disk attached to your WiiM Ultra.

Wether you need any of these options is another question. :)

Sadly I'm in the UK so the speaker links are not available to me.
I'm sure @Burnside or other members will be able to help out with different recommendations. This forum - despite WiiM being an American ;) company - has a strong British leg. And maybe an even stronger Scottish arm. :)

Yeah, it’s a pity that the wiim edition audio pro speakers aren’t yet out in the uk - indeed, WiiM have still to confirm their availability outside of the USA :(

I don’t have much experience unfortunately of small speakers apart from my tiny and trusty anker soundcore 2 which despite its size is sufficient for my small kitchen - and it has an aux input so could be fed from a mini as a stopgap measure till the larger and better WiiM edition audio, pro speakers are released here.

You could try this speaker for your kitchen. It links seamlessly with your Ultra and Mini, using the WiiM app, and should be readily available as it is a European company.

Mentioned in the first response, albeit as the WiiM Edition version. I’d be disappointed though if I bought one and the next thing WiiM released the WiiM Edition here in the UK which would be better integrated, albeit it might meet the OP’s initial requirements.

Has anyone here actually acquired a WiiM Edition and reported on it?
Meanwhile, an excellent and 100% compatible line of speakers is available today. I use three of these with my WiiM system almost every day. They sound great.

A few have been made available to beta testers here in the uk, so yes to the first part and I guess no to the second. To a degree you can think of the WiiM Edition as the same speaker but with the firmware of a WiiM Pro (Alexa aside) I.e. with room correction, squeezelite client etc that the non-WiiM edition lacks. I’m not saying it’s not a good speaker, just that a better version may be Roy d the corner if WiiM decide to release it here,

Thank you for all your replies everyone - very helpful. As a first step I've ordered a WiiM Mini and I'll try it with a Bluetooth speaker I have already (similar to Burnside's Anker Soundcore 2) and then decide what I do speaker-wise based on your help.
