Will the Wiim Ultra fix my problem?

To be honest, I can't yet think of much benefit other than the ability to increase input via multiple WiiMs.
And that is exactly what I have. :)
A Pro with Minidisk optical in/out and a Tape Recorder analog in/out. Linking to a Ultra with CD and TT. Who is master depends on what is playing (and recording).

Looking forward to create groups for the different scenarios.

Exactly, that is the scenario I was going for. The shelf where the speakers will be is wide and deep enough that I could place there a component that is safe from the kids, perhaps something stupid like a Reel to Reel;).

Great I`ve gotten the answers to all of my questions apart from one.
What is the situation with the sub, is the output to the subwoofer a switch on/off? Does it play when there is no output from the Ultra and only the Pro is playing in grouplay?

What happens to the speakers when the subwoofer is ON, are the low frequencies still going out to the speakers or only to the subwoofer, I am referring to grouplay?

The sub output can be enabled / disabled.
Don't understand what you mean by no output from ultra when in.a group. Being in a group implies it's playing....

You can choose what happens in the app.
You choose the crossover frequency, then decide whether all or just lower goes to the sub and also whether all or just higher goes to the speakers.

I don't know what exactly you want, but in the case of group playback, the sub connected to the Ultra will also be output. If you mute Ultra, only Pro will continue to play and no sound will come out of the sub. Also, if the amp connected to Ultra is off, only the subwoofer will produce sound.

The Ultra's main speakers are high-passed and do not reproduce bass below the crossover value; the Pro is full-range.

Edit : As @MrEe said, you can also turn on/off the 2 toggles in the subwoofer settings to make the mains or sub full range 🙂.

Failed miserably in trying to take a screenshot of the subwoofer settings with my new tablet, so back to the old one!
Hope this makes it clear(er).

This answers it. So in my case with my only speakers in that room connected to the Pro I will not be able to cut the bass with them. That`s a shame.
