Advanced library Synology NAS - flac files

Synology music scanner is horrid, created tons of files in @eadir used about 20GB of files alone

Also DNLA sucks, I have minimserver with wiim home app, and it's bad, lots of clicking to get to the album, bad layout.

Well. that was interesting. I decided to give it a try.

According to LMS, I have 1086 albums on my Synology Server.

According to Advanced Library, I have 0 albums.

Needs more work methinks.

WiiM support pointed me towards a WiiM Home Beta version to deal with the issue of missing albums.

However, in the meantime I made sure to create one simple non-nested "DMA menu style" (that's Synology terminology) entry based purely on the Album attribute and this to some extend resolved the issue. Advanced mode is working as well as an attached USB drive now. The remaining problem is that I have two different physical folders for "music" and for "audiobooks". I do have distinct "DMA menu style" entries integrating them into one menu structure, but the current official WHA release does not pick up the entry for "audiobooks". The beta version OTOH recognises the "audiobooks" entry only.

Probably needs more work, but I've been happy with Legacy Mode before, so I'm really just trying to improve the development.

Hi all,

Yesterday, the WiiM app offered me the option to switch to an advanced library on my Synology NAS. I accepted and after it had completed a rescan of the collection on the NAS all seemed well. This morning however, it appears that quite a number of tracks (in particular flac files) cannot be played anymore and that the album art is missing. I switched back to the legacy library display and then everything works well! I presume something went wrong with the rescanning of the library but I find it difficult to understand that the legacy option still works flawlessly. And of course, I would like the advanced library to work as well, because it looks and feels very intuitive. Thought it would be useful to report this issue and would welcome any solution. All the best.
Hey Alcor,
I think the NAS side 9f things has been overlooked somewhat.
I'm having issues with the Wiim ultra via my Synology Nas too.
I'm running asset server.
I'm having issues with population of folders and files (takes ages), skipping (like a scratched cd) and after 90 mins of playback i get random distortion like, again, it's a bad rip.
I'm in continuous contact with wiim about this. I'm on the white list now (actioned by them) but still no progress.
I think it's app related as using the bubble upnp controller it's faultless.

I've dealt with Henley Audio (uk) who believes it's firmware and to be sure I don't have a dodgy unit, my retailer Re sending out a replacement

It seems to be in the early stages of development for the Synology Media Server.

If you really wanted to see what you're not missing out on you could try it with MinimServer, which is available in the package center.
I'm using Asset and it has all I currently need

I was only suggesting you install MinimServer to test out "advanced" mode as the Synology implementation seems a little fragile at the moment, and AssetUPnP isn't supported.

I'll try asset on Synology Nas

Yet to use as something as good (and free) as lms. Have a Synology Nas with lms on a pi

I've just tested Asset. As a Windows installation though, not on a Synology NAS.
It looked fine from a content point of view and the config menu looks like one can do quite a bit of customizing on it. But I didn't dive into that any deeper.
Optically I like Minim better even without the 'Advanced Mode' of the WHA.

I have both licensed (the Asset license is perpetual) and whilst they initially appear quite similar, MinimServer has the edge in terms of customisation.
With that said, if you're using the WHA as control point the gap narrows as it doesn't support some of the more advanced features of MinimServer.

The feature I'd miss most from MinimServer is box-set (discsubtitle) functionality, though I couldn't live with the jump list implementation in Asset (an A-Z index is displayed even when only a couple of items remain).

Where as for me, no matter how good minim server is with all the features and classical works and box sets and whatever.... Asset has the Random (JUkebox) Album feature which can be used on the whole library, genres, custom tags etc. For me, that is the number 1 consideration in my Music Server........which is why I use Emby rather than Roon even though it was 1/10th of the price.

Unfortunately, some recent wiim update has started caching the Jukebox album list(s) rather than requesting a new one. So the list doesn't change if you re-enter them now. But that's fine because they fixed my Emby dlna so I don't really need to run Asset anymore anyway.

That jumped me in the face as well. Hence my remark that Minim looked nicer.

There is something strange with Wiim and dlna servers. This probably has nothing to do with your issue but I'll relate it anyway just in case it does.

My Emby server's dlna never worked with wiim. Not since I bought my first mini ages ago. The emby app would play to the wiim(s) over dlna using the emby app or a 3rd party one but it would only appear briefly in the home music share section of the wiim home app every so often and then disappear again making it unuseable.

Emby dlna worked with buuble upnp, hifi cast, upnpdcli, usbaudio pro, every other dlna control I tried. And wiim worked with minidlna, asset, minim etc etc. Other people's emby worked fine with wiim. Wiim said it was Emby and Emby said it was wiim. I reinstalled everything including my Emby server but still it wouldn't work.

Wiim were very helpful and eventually they suggested I change the ip address that Emby reports to my home network, which is the ip adress of the actual server running it (192.168.0.blah) to something completely different (192.168.8.246). That didn't work, nothing could see Emby. But when I changed it back........ suddenly Emby's dlna server worked perfectly and has done ever since.

No idea why or what the change did but it fixed it.

This thread is not about which media servers can or cannot be installed on a Synology NAS. It's about the newly introduced support for WiiM Advanced Mode when using the Synology Media Server. In the interest if the OP we shouldn't mix it all up.

I hadn't considered that a server feature as my control points offer that functionality (BubbleUPnP and Symfonium) - though as you get to larger collections I can see it makes sense - but box set support is a non-negotiable for me. I can't imagine browsing through The Beatles in Mono without any disc/album disambiguation.
