Amp Pro and DoP from Roon?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently on a 14-day Roon trial and experimenting with upsampling. I set the output to convert to DSD128, and it works perfectly when using an external DAC (Topping D30 Pro) connected to my MacBook via USB — Roon performs the conversion and outputs via DoP, as expected.

However, when I switch to my WiiM Amp Pro (Roon Ready) as the playback zone, the signal path shows no conversion — it simply streams the original Qobuz FLAC (44.1kHz/16bit) without any upsampling or DSD processing.

I’ve attached two screenshots for comparison:

  • One using the external DAC via USB
  • One using the WiiM Amp Pro over the network

Any ideas why the conversion is not happening with the Amp Pro? Is it a limitation of the device, or do I need to change something in the DSP or zone settings?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm sure someone with far more than my very rudimentary Roon knowledge will be along shortly, but I thought Roon decides what to do based on the target device's advertised capabilities.

Anyway, the acid test - how does it sound...? ;)

Edit: wondering if / how it'd change if you connect the d30 to the wiim amp via usb.

My familiarity with Roon is greater (but not Expert-level), and this is the correct explanation.

It seems Roon Ready means “can get data from Roon Server” but DSD will depend on the chipset capabilities. So if it cannot handle DSD, it will “tell” the Roon Server not to send DSD.
