Another sub out question

Hi!

I currently have a wiim mini and I love it! The Wiim mini is hooked by optical to my HT processor and the Wiim plays over my combination HT/stereo system.

My processor earned the worst review of ANY on Audio Science Review. The Ultra earns very high praises on the same. I am considering buying the Ultra and configuring it as an audiophile 2 channel system removing the processor altogether from stereo listening.

The idea would be to then run the Processor front L+R as large +sub and send the pre-amp outs to the Wiim analog in when we watch TV or movies.

This brings me to what I would like the Wiim to do and my question. I have 2 subs, each located under one of the mains. In a perfect world I would like each sub to be an extension of the speaker it sits underneath for 2 channel listening (stereo bass).

My question is, can I configure a second DAC on one of the digital outputs of the WIIM and steer the highs to the DAC in the Wiim and steer the low frequencies to the digital output in Stereo? Or are the analog and digital outputs set globally and only the single sub output is separate?

Hope this question made sense!

Thank you,

Chris

With ultra, you don’t need your processor. You can connect your tv on wiim. Ultra is streamer/preamp/dac. You can use just about any configuration. You can run Y cable that connect to each lfe on your sub. Are these sub identical? Wiim app sub setting has array of configuration that will suit your need. You can run sub full range and main if you wish. There’s also RC that mini don’t.

Hi,

I hope I understood your question correctly..

The WiiM outputs are exclusive and cannot be output simultaneously.
However, the subwoofer output can be output simultaneously with coax (or optical or line out). Therefore, I believe it is possible to connect the WiiM sub-outs to the processor using a "1RCA to 2RCA" cable and have two subwoofers operating in mono.

Hi and thank you for the reply. I need the processor for multi channel listening, movies, etc. I would like to use the Wiim as a 2 channel streamer, preamp and DAC. My question is really asking if there is any way to configure the device to run stereo subs (with external DACs) as opposed to mono. I think my explanation was too convoluted to understand. Sorry.

Hi and thank you for the reply. So you are telling me is that only one set of outputs play at a time? And even if they could play simultaneously, I could not configure one one of the digital outputs as stereo sub outs? That is really what I am trying to figure out. Thank you!

To give an example,

You cannot playback simultaneously on the coaxial and optical outputs of the Ultra. It is also not possible to playback on these digital outputs and the line out at the same time. One of these three outputs and a sub-out can be output simultaneously.

You probably need two WiiMs for your use.

Currently I have the Ultra and Pro in one group with two subwoofers for stereo playback. (I have my main speakers connected to the Ultra and two active subs connected to the Pro line out).

Hi!

OK I understand. It's disappointing, but I suppose what I want to do is a corner case.

Very interesting workaround though. If you don't mind me asking, how does it work exactly? I assume you are configuring the Ultra analog outs as high pass for stereo mains and the Pro analog outs as low pass for stereo subs?

How are the devices synchronized to both play together in playback timing and output level to your amplifiers? Is it some sort of a master/slave configuration?

Thank you!

When two WiiM devices are linked on the WiiM home app, the device cards are integrated as one group, as shown here. (You can add and remove groups by using the link icons in the upper right corner.)

Currently, "0 Ultra 2" is the master device and "01 Sub" is the slave. When music is played on the master device, it will be played on the entire group at the same time.

The audio of the two devices can be auto sync (or manual sync). The volume is adjusted for the output level of the analog output of the Pro, and the volume limit of each device. As shown in the image, the final adjustment is made so that the two slide bars on the device card have the same value.

Sorry, it is past my bedtime on my planet, so my next reply will be at least 8 hours later.😄
