I am considering trading in an older Fire Tablet to take advantage of a 20% discount on a new one. I've spent several hours reading up on it on Google and this support page. It looks like as of now the app is not available through the Amazon app store but Wiim may be working on it. I have also seen that it can be downloaded to the Amazon tablet after installing Google Play store. The problem is that Amazon makes it very clear on their tablet pages that play store is not supported on new fire tablets so I am back to hoping wiim is able to get it into the Amazon app store as a supported application.

Should I hold off?

Hi,

In my opinion, that is not expected at all.
Please submit a ticket via the feedback section of the WiiM app and ask.

Can't you use a Android tablet?

The last I heard is Amazon apps store for Android apps is being closed on August 20. I don't know how this impacts apps on Fire, but my understanding is that Amazon is working toward diverging their operating system (and Fire tablets) away from the Android ecosystem. I seriously doubt there will be enough incentive for most developers to write apps that only work on Fire tablets.

I don’t see how that link is relevant - to be honest, I wasn’t that aware that you could run the Amazon AppStore on an Android device probably because I saw no need as I already had the Google Play store. The article does say the Amazon AppStore will persist on fire tv and fire hd tablets, and I don’t follow its reasoning that the Amazon AppStore will die off because Amazon is mulling a new underlying OS for its devices - surely that’s a case for retaining it? Unless they mean just the Android version of it. I do take your point that the new o/s will mean developers will need to produce a fire o/s version as well as Android etc, but I would expect Amazon to provide incentives, SDK’s etc otherwise the new o/s could be a lame duck.

With the current Android Amazon App store I am sure many developers don't bother updating the Amazon version when the PlayStore version is updated. I bought Stellarium when Amazon gave me a voucher to spend in the app store. Updates for that stopped years ago.
