Artwork not showing on USB thumb drive

I got my Wiim Ultra this week and am loving it. It’s been working nicely so far, save for some issues with artwork not showing on a couple of albums. Upon checking the files on my USB, there’s a folder called “wiim cache” and inside is a folder marked “art cache”. True enough, the albums with the missing artwork are not in this folder. Is there a program to attach album art for these albums? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Files.db and wiim_cache are the result of WiiM indexing your collection, neither should be changed manually.

Are those albums missing artwork in your collection? All you need to do is place a folder.jpg inside the album folder containing the tracks.
Album Art Downloader is a useful tool for scraping services for artwork.

The cover art is inside the album folder together wih the flacs. But for some reason it doesn’t show on the wiim. My other albums have the cover art and are detected by wiim. I hope that makes sense.

So in this case i just create a new folder.jpg folder inside the album folder? And inside the folder.jpg is the album art? Or just rename the album art as “folder”?

Assuming you've already tried a rescan, I'd remove the album and perform a rescan (hopefully it will disappear from the listing) then add it back with album art that is correctly attributed to another album. If the temporary artwork now appears it could be something to do with the type/resolution/size of the original artwork.

All that's required is an image named folder.jpg in the folder that contains the tracks.
Embedded artwork and alternative naming conventions (cover.jpg I think) are supported, but folder.jpg has proven most compatible in my testing.

Thanks for this. Adding the “folder.jpg” image worked on one album. I still have one album where this workaround didn’t work. I’ll try the “delete - rescan - add back” method later. Thanks for your reply!

i got the same problem - on "folder view" the most of the Art work is shown but a few are still the gray thumbnail. When i go into this folder on top the big picture is displayed and also all the single files have the correct art work includes. Would be awesome to get an answer or a official workaround to fix this small but annoying bug ...

I don't have a WiiM that offers indexing, but from a quick test of the underlying media server (MiniDLNA) each folder MUST contain a (C|c)over.jpg/(F|f)older.jpg in order for album/folder artwork to display; embedded artwork only works at the track level.

I'm pretty sure that the WiiM implementation extracts embedded covers and puts them inside the wiim_cache folder, so this limitation doesn't necessarily apply.

I have a mixture of embedded covers and folder.jpg albums and sure enough I do see album covers in the Albums view for all of them.

I believe WiiM's overlay (Advanced Mode) doesn't include a folder view; are you seeing folder artwork in folder view with only embedded available?

HI simbun,

We are currently investigating the issue where folder artwork is not being displayed. Our team is working to identify the root cause and will provide an update as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your patience.

Since my albums are mix and match I'd have to check a couple of examples, but since I do see album art in Albums view and in the Folders view for each album/artist I checked so far, I believe it works with no separate picture saved to the folder, indeed.

Behaviour can be different, depending on the software version used when building the index, of course. Right now I don't feel encouraged to perform a full re-scan. 😅

If you're using folder view (which @reniro is) you'll most likely want images for non-album folders too (Artists) so it's probably safest to use folder.jpg everywhere, except for those albums that have their own disc artwork where you'll want to use both - assuming that works the same as MiniDLNA!

I don't blame you; it's like playing Russian Roulette!
