I'm thinking of purchasing an Audiophonics MPA-S250 NC amplifier to pair with my Wiim Ultra (the system also includes Indiana Line Diva 262 speakers). Has anyone tried this combination yet? Does anyone know how the triggering between the two works? Thanks

I've considered several amplifiers, including the one you mentioned. It's really nice, but I'm worried that support in Italy might be problematic. I also considered the Cambridge Audio MXW 70, but the reviews I found online weren't very encouraging. I sold my Rotel and am now looking for a compact amplifier with no external power supply or preamp section.

I have a Audiophonics AP300-S250NC connected to my Ultra, not directly but via a Topping D70 Pro DAC. Before I had the Vibelink Amp.
My impression is that this Power Amp module is fantastic, plus the build quality of Audiophonics case, connectors and wiring quite great. I'd recommend it. Plus, the staff at Audiophonics is helpful and really keen to answer any dumb or great question you may have.

A single small warning: the front facing white led, that turns on when the amp is powered, is quite bright for my taste. There is no dimming function, to reduce the intensity the only way is to add a resistor to the wire from the LED to the button.

On my speakers - Acoustic Energy AE500 - moving to the S250NC provided more presence to the sound even at low volumes, kind of higher "pressure" (but is just feeling, not measurements). I'm happy of the switch.

BTW: I'm in Italy as well, made same evaluations. Cambridge Audio misses some power to be really comparable (was in shortlist as well ;) ) and I agree that reviews are not stellar - I was worried by the reported low build quality of the chassis as well. I lately had some issues with other Cambridge products I own and - once stepped through quite a long exchange of details over mail with the support - the repair and handling of the case was not bad after all. With Audiophonics I always got valuable help right at first connection, before AND after purchase.

@opiszon I love the Netherlands, I must: I have Dutch relatives... what's holding me back from IOM is that I don't know anything beyond a few photos on the web. Audiophonics seems like a more established brand (I know people who owns Audiophonics products, can't say the same thing for IOM).

I use two 252 and two 100HF modules to drive my main speakers.

They run hot, so I'd choose the build with the best cooling. This is adequate.
I'd say the case (and therefore cooling) from Audiophonics is a good one on this regards. Vented ports top and down plus heat sinks at both sides, plus space.

Many not be great as a custom build, but feels more than adeguate.

The MPA-S250NC is a different (and slightly more affordable) design than the AP300-S250NC, even if both use the same integrated Ncore PSU and amplifier module. In particular, the case work is obviously more compact and more simplistic, and you have to choose between XLR and RCA inputs (the latter being appropriate for the Ultra).

The trigger is most likely implemented identically but so far nobody has answered the question how well this works with the Ultra. :)

@campaz, any amplifier being able to push >= 60 W into 4 ohms will be able to drive the Diva 262 to their sound pressure limits. And the NC252MP will provide all the low distortion and output impedance you could ask for.

If your unsure about the trigger in combination with the WiiM Ultra it's probably best to ask Audiophonics directly. They should know best, because they do sell WiiM, too. ;)

Audiophonics sells Ultra and NC252MP together as bundle, including trigger cable. Worth asking if this works fine with the infamous silent reboot at night. ;)

I connect Ultra -> USB -> DAC -> XLR -> Amp and can only tell that my DAC is not friend of the WiiM on the silent reboot, but I'm passing trigger through the DAC and not directly. Simplest way is to ask the friendly staff there.

I'm aware of the trigger problem some people have in conjunction with their external DACs. But I haven't seen one post reporting the same for amps.
I have tried it on two power amps with great success. No problems at all. So the likelyhood of it working with the amps in question is very high if not certain.

Interesting conversation about the MP modules over at Audio Science..

Agreed. Have same feeling. Just cannot confirm with factual and first hand test myself. Maybe I'll at some point just connect the trigger directly to the Amp and set the DAC to signal sensing. :)

3e Audio have recently teased their new range of multi channel amps, starting with a 2 channel configuration. They have built-in PSU and proper 12v trigger. There's a few renders to give you an idea.

In a recent post they mentioned that production has started and the first batch should reach Amazon warehouse/Audiophonics soon.

I'm using Wiim Ultra with Audiophonics amp. It's AP300-S500NC. I'm happy with it. It looks nice, it's very well build with good materials, has trigger and works flawlessly. Power is probably overkill in my conditions. Is it night and day difference between this amp and best models from Aiyima / Fosi ? In my standard listening conditions I would say no. 1000034733.jpg
