Hello,

I have ordered a Topping L30 2, which will arrive in the next few days.

Now I have a question about connecting the Topping to the Ultra. I have connected my power amplifier to the Ultra via RCA. How do I connect the Topping now? The RCA is now occupied by the power amplifier. Should I use a Y-cable or buy a RCA converter?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

One way - ultra rca out to L30 rca in, L30 rca out to amp, and use the switch on the front of the L30 to switch between line out and headphones.

That's brilliant. The topping then serves practically as a switch between power amplifier and headphones.
Thanks alot.

I have now connected the topping differently.
Headphone output of the Ultra with jack to RCA cable to the input of the Topping.
Is there anything against it?

I had the problem that my subwoofer played along with the suggested connection method when listening with headphones.

You didn't mention a subwoofer earlier!
imo, using the ultra headphone output as an input to a headphone amp is, well, unusual...
May as well just use the ultra headphone out directly - defeats the purpose of using a separate headphone amp.

Funnily enough, I've seen some products where the ability to use a subwoofer while using headphones is marketed as a desirable feature.

I'm going to do some tests this weekend.
If I understand correctly, you want to be able to
- Listen to your speakers + subwoofer OR
- Listen quietly on your headphones

If that's the case... have you thought of connecting your headphones using the Optical output of the Ultra ?
For example, you could simply connect a DAC/HP amp combo unit like the Topping DX3 Pro+.

The DX3 Pro+ is a great sounding device. It even comes with a remote control to adjust the volume.

That way, you'd select the :
- LINE OUT output for your speakers OR
- OPTICAL OUT for your headphones

Only thing to note is that you could not use the headphones and speakers at the same time.

If I were you, I would :
- Sell the L30 and get the DX3 Pro+ instead OR
- Add a DAC in the chain (ex. WiiM Ultra ---optical---> Topping E30 II ---RCA---> Topping L30 II) OR
- Simply use the WiiM Ultra's headphones amplifier while saving money

Hope this helps 😋

That still wouldn't solve the problem of the subwoofer playing along with the headphone amp (unless you manually disable the sub out every time you want to listen with headphones).

Right now, a DAC/headphone amp connected to the USB output would solve that problem, but this is rather due to a current restriction of the USB output. WiiM are actively working on removing this restriction.

Yeah you're right ! I just tested selecting the optical output and the subwoofer is still playing in the background ! WT... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I thought the subwoofer was linked to the line out since there's bass management (crossover, hpf, lpf, etc.)...

I still think it's the best solution for OP if he wants to upgrade significantly the sound quality of the headphones. He just needs to remember to disable the subwoofer 😋

Hi,
thank you for your contributions.
I now have the L30 running in parallel with my power amplifier. Of course I have to switch off the sub manually but that's not a problem for me.

Old thread, but anyway, and HNY:
You could get the Topping E30 DAC and put it between the Ultra and L30II. That would be very good little two box digital input headphone amp.
