Connecting external dac to ultra

Have had my Fiio K11 R2R dac for a few weeks now. Love it. NOS mode is so sublime and relaxed sounding. The ESS dac in the ultra is quite good though. Little bright for my tastes. The R2R matches well coming out of my Ultra into my Integrated Tube amp and Wharfdale speakers. Highly reconnected dac.
Sounds like the Fiio K11 R2R is a great match for your setup. I’m curious, does it make vocals and acoustic music sound warmer or more natural compared to the ESS DAC? Really helpful to hear your thoughts

A little warmer in my opinion. I was listening to some Shirley Horn earlier this evening. Wonderful jazz singer. Her vocals and the music had no edge to them at all. The Fiio dac is a great match with my system

Simple.... connect via the ultra usb output and it'll never auto turn off :ROFLMAO:

As i learned in another thread: When using a subwoofer - USB Out may will be not the best option to run a DAC when you wanna profit of the Sub Out Settings of the Wiim Ultra.

If development goes smoothly, the sub-out will be available this week with USB output. We'll see how it goes🙂.

Yesterday I got Fiio K11 R2R and I wanted to connect it to Wiim Ultra via USB. Unfortunately, the Wiim icon is gray and inactive (Fiio set to USB 2 mode, i.e. correctly). I tried 3 different cables - unfortunately there is no difference. Who has such a problem? I will add that Fiio works without problems with coax and optical.
thx

Probably not much help except to say it ought to work; usb from my ultra to my k11 r2r works fine.
tbh, not sure what to suggest... I'm assuming you've set the fiio to usb input!

Maybe try pulling the power from both devices for a minute or so to 'reset' them?

Yes, Fiio is set to USB input and the options include USB 2 (correct). Unfortunately, the USB OUT icon on the Wiim is gray all the time and you can't select this connection. I wonder if the fault lies with the DAC or Wiim? Or maybe just synchronization? But if you write that it works for you, I assume it may be a hardware defect.
I will try to disconnect both devices today and use a different USB cable - I will let you know.

there is a photo in the post above
That's the WiiM Ultra touchscreen. What does the WiiM Home app show under your device settings audio output? I suspect it doesn't show USB out as an option as I suspect it can't detect the k11

exactly - in the application on the phone it does not show USB out at all

Can you test with a USB memory key if the USB input is working on your WiiM Ultra?

If it is, then the USB hardware is probably functional and the most likely cause of error is further down the chain. Either cable (I know you tried a number of them) or DAC hardware or DAC configuration (I know you're sure it's correct).

And just to be on the safe side: The DAC must be turned on before the Ultra.

I connected an external SSD drive and a phone to the Wiim - the drive works, although it doesn't show USB out in the Wiim application (I have to check it again today because I don't remember) and the phone asks whether it should only charge or transfer files, so USB in the Wiim works in my opinion... ..
I will check all these connections again today and what information is in the Wiim application in the OUT section.
