Digital transport / passthrough

Hi! Could someone summarize the settings required for running the Ultra in passthrough mode, as a pure digital transport?

I mainly listen to lossless streaming services and use an external DAC connected via coax. Using the Wiim Ultra as a pure transport seems complicated or at least not self-explanatory. It’s prone for mistakes/misunderstandings. For example, hitting the EQ by mistake obviously activates the internal DAC as audio gets altered. Same with volume.

I just posted a feature request for getting ”Passthrough” as a preset setting.

Doing an AI search one of the chatbots had a nice summary for WiiM bit-perfect settings:
_______________________________________

WiiM Ultra Bit-Perfect Settings

To achieve bit-perfect playback on the WiiM Ultra, you need to adjust several settings in the WiiM Home app. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the necessary configurations:

SETTINGRECOMMENDED CONFIGURATION
EQ (Equalization)Disable (toggle off)
Volume ControlEnable Fixed Volume Output
Volume LimitSet to 100% (default)
SPDIF/Coax Output ResolutionSet to 192 kHz/24-bit and disable Fixed Resolution to avoid resampling
Volume BalanceKeep at 0 (default)
Fade-In & Fade-Out EffectsDisable
Pre-GainKeep at 0 dB (default)
Optical/HDMI Audio De-noisingDisable
Per-Source Volume ControlDisable
Volume Normalization on Streaming ServicesDisable (for services like TIDAL, Qobuz, etc.)

Steps to Configure Bit-Perfect Playback
  1. Open the WiiM Home App: Launch the app on your mobile device.
  2. Access Device Settings: Go to the Devices tab and select your WiiM device.
  3. Adjust Audio Settings: Follow the recommended configurations listed in the table above.
  4. Disable EQ: Ensure that the EQ setting is turned off to maintain the integrity of the audio signal.
  5. Check Streaming Services: If using services like TIDAL or Qobuz, make sure volume normalization is disabled to prevent any alterations to the audio stream.
By following these settings, you can ensure that the audio signal is transmitted without any modifications, preserving the original quality of the sound. This setup is particularly important for high-resolution audio formats, allowing you to experience music exactly as it was recorded.

Or just have a look in the WiiM FAQ. ;)

I invite you to find literature on common observations of ISP saturation in many recordings other than "classical" music... You may find yourself, unless DACs like RME require a -2.5dB or tolerate overloads, preferring a comfortable use of the Wiim digital level at around -2.5/-3dB in 32-bit... rather than by posture... a "bitperfect"

?

;-)

True-peak ISP etc

Jeez. Looks like a passthrough preset is motivated.
There was discussion of a bit-perfect toggle at one point. Perhaps raise a ticket to WiiM via the more/feedback section in the app and ask that they implement that.

Yeah but another setting to generate other bugs…🥸
