I have the latest Wiim Home app version. I cannot find this at all under Device Settings. Android version:

To disable phone volume sync (so your phone buttons only control the phone’s own volume):1. Open the **WiiM Home app**.2. Go to **Device Settings** for your WiiM device.3. Navigate to **Audio** or **Volume Settings**.4. Look for options such as **“Volume Sync,” “Remote Volume Control,” or “Phone Volume Control.”**5. Disable this option and save. After this, your phone’s volume buttons will no longer change the WiiM device volume .

Where did you find those instructions?

In the WiiM Home App, go to "More" - "App Preferences" - "Allow playback on lock screen".

I have that enabled and have the player on the lock screen. What I want is to disassociate the phone's volume buttons from the volume of the app.

The problem is if some other media plays on my phone and I need to adjust the volume of that media, the app volume also changes. The AI response implies that I can separate those.

When I originally installed the app a year or so ago, it was like this by default. Something changed and I would like it to go back to the way it was.

Try disabling "Allow Playback on lock screen". That stops the WiiM app interfering with other apps.
