A few reviews around for the Eversolo Play Streaming Amp, with the WiiM Amp Ultra mentioned a lot. Here's one from Erin:

Seems to think the Play's pluses over the Amp Ultra are:
  • Bigger/better screen, with more options
  • Better build quality
  • Slightly better RC
  • Option of built-in CD player
But cons compared to the Amp Ultra:
  • Not as powerful
  • No PFFB
  • No remote
  • More expensive
As far as I can see, Eversolo don't have a version without the amp section (happy to be corrected). But if they ditched the amp and released a version as a streamer/DAC/pre amp, the WiiM Ultra loses all of its advantages except price.

Having said all this, I'm not sure what the Play is like regarding PEQ, sub crossover and integration, etc.

I'm sure WiiM will be checking out these reviews and making notes of what appears to be popular with the Play when considering their next streamer.

Yeah, posted yesterday

Edit: and as noted there, no AlexaCast support (nor Alexa support I’d guess) which makes it a no go-er for me and my use of Amazon Music
Here's a link for Amazon Music situation on the Eversolo.... looks messy 😁

My amp and speakers reside on the opposite end of my living room from my listening position, so a touch screen of any kind is useless to me. Any display on the amp of any kind would have to be the size of a laptop for me to even decipgpher what it’s displaying from where I sit. In fact I’ve turned off the display on my Amp Ultra for that exact reason - I’d have to get up and move to within three feet of it to see anything. I find doing everything from my phone to be the most convenient (which in itself is ironic, because I otherwise despise the notion of being a slave to my phone), and I can’t think of anything more I’d want or need for my listening pleasure that the Amp Ultra doesn’t provide. I could see the benefit in a near-field setup, but that’s not a need for me. Just my two cents - sorry, Eversolo, WiiM wins in my house.

There's nothing to suit everybody's needs. No matter how hard we argue. :)

Having sold my A6 2 weeks ago, now the Amazon music situation for me, at least at the time, was perfectly fine. That was my streaming music service of choice and still is. I actually have had issues with it on the Wiim Amp Ultra. Especially getting an album to play first time. Or artwork work missing when I save a playlist or album into my presets.

Eversolo DMP-A6 Gen 2 is their least expensive model without integrated amp and it's actually more expensive than Play. Then their T8 streamer which also eschews the integrated DAC (it's a pure streaming transport) costs even more than the DMP-A6, so their pricing model is ass-backwards, but what do I know I'm just a consumer that chooses where their money goes and thinks that there's no value in upgraded power supplies and I2S outputs.

I really confused on why you keep expecting Eversolo to be cheap or to be priced in the same ball park as Wiim on certain products? when they never stated this was there objective. Totally agree as a consumer we should be thinking about where we put our money and value and some prices on Hi-fi equipment are a head scratcher but I have never read that Eversolo was necessarily a budget company.

You have your opinion and you’re no more or less entitled to it than I am to mine. Disagreement is also perfectly fine.

eversolo has never been my thing. several models of the same with upgraded flashy looking internals and powersupplies, the recent t8 streamer that does nothing but output a digital signal, yet suggesting it would give you better sound..not into subjective marketing stuff anymore.
also touchscreens are just gimmicks, they do nothing of value, yes that includes wiim.

I do like having a display that shows how much time remaining on the track because sometimes I need a heads up when the track is ending soon so I can turn the volume back down if the current song is low volume but the next song is loud AF. Mixed playlists are convenient but can catch one off-guard sometimes. ReplayGain only goes so far because it will attenuate very loud tracks but it does not (and should not!) boost extremely quiet ones.

i guess you could tell from remembering the album cover, or possibly have short distance from the listening chair and are younger so its easier to focus. for me, even in a somewhat small room it does absolutely nothing :) i have the cellphone or pad for control right in front of me.

wiim pro, pro plus, ultra.. still only unbalanced 2V which is not enough for lower gain or max output of many amplifiers, so any other gimmick features goes out the window. eversolo has en edge in that regard.. but there is no way their audiophile powersupplies or special digital outputs makes any difference.

Replaygain can boost quiet tracks but only if the peak level allows it. It definitely shouldn't allow clipping. It is also more likely to allow it if track gain is used rather than album gain. If track gain is used then the final track on "The Wall" would be boosted nearly 15dB 😂

Not a gimmick. Their use will vary between the end-users.
