Having to explain and comment on your vote is also a bad idea and demotivating. I can certainly live with just positive votes, it's the best option discussed so far.

What I would really like to see is the actual number of upvotes and downvotes, not just the balance. A request receiving two upvotes and nothing else is probably ... pretty lame. Another request receiving 74 upvotes and 72 downvotes is obviously controversial, but still somewhat of a hot topic. It might make sense to dig into this a bit deeper. Maybe it just needs a minor change to the original idea to gain acceptance?

If this isn't possible (or not wanted by a majority): Go with positive votes, only.

I like that idea too, but I don't think it's a possibility with the feature request system. It could be done with polls "do you want this, Yes or No" but that's not a great way to handle it.

In that case I'm 100% for the upvote only approach, if XenForo supports that.

Abusing features for what they are not meant to be will always bite you back, sooner or later.

I do not see why that is necessary for us. If anyone needs such data, I believe it is the WiiM team, not us.

And it can probably be found on the admin page of this forum. (no?)

Many people don't even know the ballot box exists in the first place and perhaps most don't care.
(I think this is one of the reasons why the negative votes are more noticeable.)

If this vote is important to Team, you may want to do this.


Personally, I don't even feel the need to display aggregate results on the forum. The only thing that matters to me is the discussion in the comments on the request and the replies from the Team.

Often the person submitting the request does not know about a feature that already exists, and sometimes a compromise or workaround that someone suggests can be very helpful.

Well, if someone makes a feature request asking for something that we already have, one of our curators could answer them and then help by moving that request out of the feature request section.
