Features wanted in a Wiim Ultra 2

Well I’m sure we’ll all be enthralled when they tell us why you need a gigabit port when 24/192 audio needs less than 10Mbps of bandwidth.

We live in a world where people’s max bandwidth needs is in the tens of Mbits but still sign for gigabit service… And if questioned they claim more is better.

Yes but Gigabit service is always "up to 1 Gigabit" so you never actually get it 🤞

One day hopefully, we could buy physical media, never to worry about bandwidth/bitrate again. Only to complain about the mastering engineer…

Subsonic servers support
much bigger screen
USB PC input
access streaming services directly from the screen (including search)

I run GigE in my network using managed GigE switches. One of my WiiM Ultra is connected directly to the port in one of the switches. I have seen no congestion issues with 100baseT for audio into the Ultra. That said, it's strange that 100baseT is being used, I figure the bill of materials between 100baseT and GigE is identical.... or perhaps the 100baseT is more expensive now? Most of this stuff is done with a cheap modem chip nowadays.

Even when I turn the volume to 11, I don't see any issues with 100baseT...

The only use case I can think of is perhaps when you’re running multi room with a large number of devices as that uses a receiver/distributor model, so one WiiM might be responsible for distributing the stream to multiple other devices. But even that’s stretching it as multi room is currently capped at 16/48 anyway.

The Bluesound Icon supports 1000 Mbps .I think that they know something more ....
I wouldn't believe it unless I had tried it.
I have several BS Pulse Flex 2i boxes around the house one of which connected via ethernet. One day when checking my network I noticed that this connection was specified at only 100Mbits even though the port was set to 1Gbits. And I remember that I had read in the specs of the PulseFlex that Gigabit was supported. See below (and it still is, I took the screenshot just now):

So I turned to the BS support for clarification and they confirmed that only 100Mbits were supported and that the product description was faulty. BTW that was 8 months ago.

(1) Volume to 11... is a joke!

(2) Switches handle the bit rate handshake.

(3) Bandwidth limitation can be by network or server congestion. A server trying to serve to many devices concurrently might run into congestion, but how many Tidal Connect applications can you run? I solved the issue myself by getting four Ultras and connecting each one to a single USB DAC and then just running the whole thing over a GigE network with several switches running Spanning Tree. Plus also enabling WiFi... although the wired ethernet takes priority.

Is that BS for BlueSound or a description of their customer service? 😂

As we want to stay polite I will say that I meant the former:ROFLMAO:.

TBH the support of Bluesound isn't really bad at all. It's the product management / implementation team or whatever their orga looks like that's constantly lagging behind.

Wasn’t talking about Tidal Connect or any specific service, just one WiiM device receiving a stream from anywhere then distributing that locally to multiple linked devices. If that distribution was hi res audio and there were a lot of linked devices, then I might foresee a situation where a higher spec interface might be needed.

At least one more COAX or Touslink input is needed for me.

Other than that, a volume control that doesn't feel like trash would be nice.

Are you talking about the dial on the unit itself, or are you talking about the remote? If it's the remote, the Smart Remote 2 has a much better feel.

You‘re not supposed to use it, just to have it, just in case.
I can‘t remember having touched it since I set up my AmpUltra a month ago.

But then again, I‘m not one of those desk top guys who prefer to listen to music instead of getting to work.

Mu desire are Wiim create one new version of Wiim Ultra.Wiim Ultra+ with this improvements:

- Best quality - more solid encoder - volume knob.

-Add 1 more analog output to actual :1 pair stereo and 1 sub + new analog orput
This new analog output and others are free config for this options:

* 2nd Stereo output zone
* Aditional sub output for config 2.2 system .
* Fre configurable DSP / crossover option for use al analog outputs and config possibilities for active system.

- New design-more solid (aluminium) and more buttons-options Wiim Remote.

-Option of install internal ssd for ripping Cd via USB port.

My Dreams would come true.
