It would be great to have the ability to filter searches and the library of my NAS by file format or bit rate/sampling. I want to see my high res albums as a group. It's quite annoying when they're grouped in the albums' track lists when I have 4 or 5 versions of some albums at different sampling and masterings.

Use Minimserver and you'll be able to do that

By using index tags - for example, here's what I have for my Minimserver categories: "Artist, Date, Genre, All Artists, Composer, Conductor, Orchestra, #AudioData:Quality, #AudioFormat:Format, #AudioChannels:Channels, *RecentAdded, *RecentPlayed"

If I choose say FLAC from that last screen, I get presented with a version of the first screen without the format option so can drill down by artist, date etc and show just 24/192 matches. That flexibility is why Minimserver is often advised as an excellent UPNP server option.
