Sennheiser are my go to wired ones![]()
I bought a heavier duty regular cable but mainly use a balanced cable with my astell and kern playerI had two pairs of Sennheiser’s from the 70s but can’t recall model numbers.
The cable on the higher end pair disintegrated and the ear pads on the cheaper ones fell to bits and there were no spares :-(
Off topic observation . There are more of us that use Lyrion than WiiM may think. My main headphone setup is a pair of Hifiman Sundara open back powered by a Schiit Midgard with a Pro Plus as the source. In my office I have a set of Sennheiser HD569 closed back phones powered by a Fiio K11 with a RPi 4/Hifiberry Digi card running the HFB OS (with LMS as the server on another RPi.)
There are lots of good headphones out there, but I'm particularly fond of the planar magnetic drivers like the ones in my Sundara phones. There are a number of different brands that offer that option over a broad price range. Since returns are pretty easy these days it might be worth trying one of them out.Been in headphones just for a couple of weeks, thinking of a upgrade for the X2HR.![]()
Thank you for sharing.Whatever you use, try the Squiglink interface. The database covers most Headphone/IEM Manufacturers/models & allows you to visually create accurate PEQ following various target curves. I have multi-band and 10 band (for WiiM) versions, with the multi-band versions following the target extremely accurately.
Example below for Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pro Mk2, mapped to Harman 2018 (bands beyond 10 added & set by myself, trial and error produces instant visual results as you tweak to follow the curve). The result completely transforms the traditional Beyer treble peak and the results are very impressive & can be done to taste with any headphones on the database. For multi-band I use 20hz-20kHz & ten band usually 20hz-9kHz or 15kHz.

I got some as a present from my uncle in my childhood, late 70s. With yellow foam. They were really good! Unfortunately, the foam pads had disintegrated into their constituent parts...I can't remember the model either. Once a Sennheiser, always a SennheiserI had two pairs of Sennheiser’s from the 70s but can’t recall model numbers.
The cable on the higher end pair disintegrated and the ear pads on the cheaper ones fell to bits and there were no spares :-(
