How to set up WiiM Pro Plus through the DAC in my AToll CD.

I'm a complete newcomer to streaming, and my HiFi components (with exception of CD) are all vintage, with Phono connectors on my pre-amp and power amp. I connected the WiiM to my CD, using the optical cable output, to the DAC input of the CD, the idea being to use the quality DAC in the Atoll. I thought I set up correctly but i'm not getting any sound, not the test sound or from music streaming. Of course the CD is connected to the pre-amp via the phono connections. Are there any other connections I need to make?

A separate issue is that the app tells me that the wifi signal is weak. The HiFi is on the 2nd floor of my house, and the router on the 1st floor, less than 5 metres away but up a floor. The television is also on the second floor and we don't have any problem with getting digital TV with a good signal. Could that be a potential problem?

I'd be grateful for any suggestions or advice. Thank you!

Another stupid question: Did you set up the WiiM Pro Plus using the WiiM Home app? Did you set the output to optical?

All WiiM streamers use one of their outputs at a time. You must explicitly tell the Pro Plus to output a signal through the optical out.

More stupid question: have you already tried the optical cable included with the WiiM?

Also, if you set the Optical output resolution to anything other than 24bit/192kHz, do you still hear the test audio?

Thanks for the suggestions, not stupid questions, as I am pretty clueless when it comes to digital (its an age thing!) But, yes I set the Atoll to digital input via the optical cable, and also to optical output in the WiiM app, and connected optical out on the WiiM to optical input on the Atoll. I'll try playing with the resolution later today. I can't hear the test audio or anything from Tidal, which appears to be playing ok according to the display on my phone. Incidentally, my signal strength now shows very high!

Sorry if I misunderstood your statement, are you connecting the optical output of the Atoll to the optical input of the WiiM?

The RCA outputs of the Atoll must be connected to the amplifier.

WiiM (optical output) >> (optical input) Atoll (RCA) >> (RCA) Preamp

The Atoll CD200 has the optional DAC board fitted which has optical, USB and Co-axial inputs. There is also a digital output which has just a single co-ax and an optical. I connected the WiiM output to the input on the DAC board and selected optical input on the CD and in the app. The CD is linked to the Pre-amp via RCA cables, and of course the CD works fine. I tried playing with the resolutions but nothing on any setting. I'm connected to Tidal on the WiiM app, and I can see the track playing but no sound. Volumes up on the app and the amp. I can't for the life of me see what I've done wrong!

Now that Ultra and Atoll are connected by an optical cable, disconnect the optical cable from the Atoll side and check if the signal is coming from Ultra. The tip of the adapter should glow red. (Do not look directly at the light.)

If you see a red light, there is probably a problem with Atoll's settings.

Thank you for your help withe this! I have the Pro Plus, not Ultra, but I assume very similar. I disconnected the optical cable at the Atoll end and the light is shining red. Is that not what you would expect, the signal travelling from the WiiM to the DAC?

Yes, I don't think there is anything wrong with the WiiM, but could you post a capture of the "device" screen and "audio output" screen of the WiiM app?

You can also try connecting the RCA outputs of the WiiM directly to the RCA inputs of the amplifier without Atoll, and to see if the sound comes out correctly.

The documentation for the Atoll CD200 say that digital input is on an "Optional Digital Board". Do you have that?

I thought of that but it wouldn't have an optical input at all if the Digital Board wasn't fitted.
Yes, maybe?

There is also a very strange way to select the optical input.

"To use the digital Inputs (digital and USB), place the CD player on SLEEP. Then you can select the Inputs with fwr/rew keys of the front panel."

Thank you for all the help and suggestions. It's now working and sounding great!!! I simply restored factory settings and re-installed from scratch, and then it worked. I feel like an idiot, why didn't I do this before! Sorry to put you guys to this trouble. I do have the optional digital board (photo above doesn't show it) and connected WiiM output to the optical input of the DAC board.
