Tidal Idagio/Airplay vs Tidal Connect

Savvier than me. I reached a point a few years ago when I decided that I just didn't want to learn any new tech if I could help it. I became a selective Luddite. So... If I don't need to know anything about Chromecast, I don't want to. That is not where my intellectual curiosity lies. 🤷‍♂️
You don't have to learn how it works :p Just how to select the device you want to play on.

Chromecast has been around for 12 years. Is that before or after your decision? 🙂

... or where to find it.
Please have a look at the post

The thing is... I want the WiiM Ultra to work like a CD player: I open the tray, I put in a CD, I close the tray, and I press play. I don't want to know anything else about the CD player except which buttons to press to get music playing out of my speakers. As a rule, I do not listen to streaming services except for Idagio and, in its absence, Amazon Music (which I get free through my employer). The main reason why I got the WiiM Ultra in the first place was to be able to listen to Internet radio (I live about halfway between New York and Philadelphia and cant really bring radio stations from either city in with any reliability, and I do want to listen to CBC Music - I'm originally from Canada - and BBC3, as well) and to play my library of FLACs from a USB drive on my hifi. The WiiM Ultra seemed like (and is) a convenient way to do this. I am disappointed, however, that Idagio (the only streaming service that I really care to use) is not integrated into the WiiM Ultra.

The bottom line is this: I bought the WiiM not because it is great technology that I want to engage with, but because it was a cheap, simple, convenient solution that I could use like my AM/FM tuner or a CD Player - and it even has front-panel controls on the display that I can use instead of my phone or the remote. I have never used Chromecast and have no desire to, even if it is the easiest thing in the world to use. (I dislike using my phone most of the time and, apart from Strava, I almost never even use social media.) I am the ultimate lo-tek (selective) Luddite. I would rather listen to the radio, play LPs and CDs, and since Idagio is pretty much the only streaming service I use (I listen to it on the train to work), I would like to have the most convenient-possible access to it on my hifi for those times when I am not listening to LPs, CDs, or the radio. I don't want another step.

I know I'm the outlier here, among a bunch of guys who're really into digital media and tech. I'm not, and I want my exposure to it to be as convenient and minimal as possible.

If WiiM could integrate an Idagio app just like the Amazon Music app, that would be great (I have no idea how the other streaming apps work on the WiiM, nor do I care), and I would appreciate. If they don't, I'll be disappointed, but I'll live. The Ultra will probably be the last WiiM product that I will buy. And it was cheap enough that I wouldn't feel much pain swapping it out for a unit that better meets my needs at some point in the future.

I don't understand why you won't use a Chromecast connection?

If you can use your phone to call someone, then you can also use the phone to "call" the WiiM when listening to music.

PS: The WiiM don't run apps. It is the music service interfaces that is implemented in the WiiM Home App and in the WiiM device firmware. As there are hundreds of these services, it's simply not possible to include all. The Idagio service do however look like one of the services that are on the WiiM roadmap.

Thanks for your help, everyone! This thread has convinced me to sell the WiiM and get a different streamer. It's still fairly new, and I still have the packaging, so I can sell it for $250-$275 and, since I bought it on a special, I won't take a huge hit on my mistake. I am pretty sure that I don't want to use this product anymore. The fact that users on WiiM's own support forums, and possibly representatives of the company itself, react with such belligerent hostility to a simple feature request is evidence that this is not a company with which I wish to have a relationship. Good going - you lost a WiiM customer.

The Idagio app will eventually come.

Sorry if you feel like that for the people, on this user forum, trying to help you get what you wanted.

I do however not believe you will find another product that will be easier for you to use. The WiiM is the simplicity of streamers.

Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Edit: As far as I can find the only streamers where some supports Idagio natively is from Sonos, Bluesound or Burmester and only if you have a Premium Membership.

Sorry you feel that way and you've totally misread the room. What was offered was easy to follow help to allow you to play from the Idagio app that you already use on your phone and have its output sent to your Wiim without having an indeterminate wait for such a feature to be implemented, probably with less features, in the WiiM Home app.

No Wiim representatives have commented on this thread, just fellow users trying to offer guidance.

Best wishes for Christmas and New Year nonetheless...

It's a shame that you feel this way, but tbh I feel that it's your complete and utter intransigence that's the problem here.

People tried to offer you simple easy to follow advice that you were unwilling to even listen to, let alone accept.

I hope you eventually find something that meets your needs.
