I recently bought an Ultra and found out the importance of using the latest version of the WiiM app. I have linked a thread below regarding the issues I was having playing files from an attached USB hard drive. The issues were resolved once I deleted and reinstalled the WiiM iOS app to the latest version. It was a good lesson and one I thought I'd pass along. Maybe this is common knowledge and I'm just a little behind the curve on this.

Brilliant! I never knew there was such a setting on my iPhone 13. I just checked and sure enough there it was. I changed the setting to automatically update my apps. Thank you both!
I am pretty sure that automatic updating is the default option on iPhones.

Now I remember why the app update setting on my iPhone 13 was was set to off. Since changing the setting several apps I use including Ticketmaster updated and not in a positive way. One app I used for keeping track of my mountain bike rides changed to another app and all the ride history is gone. The setting was changed back to off.

I've been burned too many times with bad app updates and would never do auto updates. Even if the app update itself isn't broken, it often wipes saved settings/login and becomes a pain. Unless I know the app has a security issue, will stop functioning unless updated, or has new functionality and I'm certain the update is good, I leave them alone. I use the classic "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach.

I have an app I haven't updated for almost 3 years. I read in the update "We rewrote the app from the ground up!" That's a big ol' NOPE from me. Over the next few months, I read bad review after bad review of how broken it was.. I think it's stable now, but have yet to see a new feature or reason to update.

This is a good share! I would add that it probably matters more than other updates. The latest update had some changes to USB libraries, so using the mismatched versions with changes in the code for that particular source probably was particularly troublesome.

I can say from experience that updating the WiiM app was incredibly helpful. With the older app version I could not get the rescan feature to work. Also the strange album artwork issue with files on a 2TB USB hard drive is no longer an issue since updating the app. It was all well worth upgrading and I'll update the app (manually!) in the future when needed.

One reason I went with WiiM. They update often, are open to requests, and listen to problems people are having. If it says "update" I do it.
From the IT world, I use to think that my Windows PCs getting updates way more often than my Mac were from bugs and security issues from poor programming management, although it seems that even Apple has had to update often due to the software complexity. After my Sonos debacle and switching to WiiM, I do appreciate the constant bug fixes and feature releases, considering the price and the newness of the company and products.
