Inconsistent grouping with Pro and/or pro plus using airplay

I read somewhere here that if one had a Pro or a Pro Plus, they could stream airplay 2 to either of those units and then group them with the Ultra in order to get it to play the same content (Airplay2) in sync. I was excited. I got the unit and tried this and it worked! It also wounded great!

Then I tried it this morning and the app said it could not complete the process. I then grouped the ultra to another pro that was not playing airplay and once they were linked I switched the source to airplay and it worked. So I am wondering, should you Ultra group with other Wiim Devices playing airplay, or is this a glitch that will be corrected causing me to not be apple to use airplay at all with the Ultra? It would be great to hear fro Wiim itself in regards to this, but, of course I welcome anyone's input.

Another thing I experienced when I finally got things working where some dropouts and glitches every 20 or so seconds. Why would this be happening. Does the amount of units one is grouping affect the quality of the stream? I was grouping to Pros, 1 Pro Plus and an Ultra.

Same issues here.... I purchased a few Audio Pro speakers, WiiM pro plus and an Ipad for the almighty Airplay2 and everything is inconstant... I have dropouts, glitches works fine one day, then issue's the next... All speakers have great connection, using a rather pricey Asus ET12 set that has been one of the best routers i've ever owned so I'm not blaming my network...

I've taken a step back for a bit because it's really pissing me off....

Well, everything worked for me until I introduced the ultra. I have been streaming to 2 pros and 1 pro plus without issue for months. So this is just a question to understand if maybe I misinterpreted whether I can actually group the ultra to other Wiim products that are playing AirPlay. Like I said I got it to work one time fabulously, then the next time I couldn’t get it to work then another time I got it to work but I had some weird synchrony issues with somPros and one pro plus without issue for months. Please don't hijack this thread to complain about your issues. If you are not using an Ultra or have tried this, I don't see how your comments contribute. I realize it is frustrating that the Ultra does not stream Airplay 2 and I agree it does not make any sense (unless what I am trying actually works, then I would understand). I know the Ultra is not compatible, but I read in this forum, in more than one thread, that I could link the Ultra to another unit streaming airplay and get it to work that way. I have also read about other workarounds. If the Ultra just had two optical ins I would just buy a mini and connect it to the Ultra but I need that port.

It would be nice if @RyanWithWiiM or at least somebody from Wiim would respond and let me know. You would think owning 4 of their products would inspire them to at least throw me a bone or give me some sort of response, even through private message.

Thank for understanding. Hopefully someone will chime in eventually. If not I guess this thing is being returned and I will wait for a better product. If this thing just had one more optical input I could just use a mini to achieve this capability. I could use a pro but I am not a fan of daisy chaining and have to change the input on 2 devices to work around what is, frankly, a design flaw. It is sad because I can really hear the difference.

Today I grouped my ultra, mini, pro, pro plus and a10 in the WiiM app and airplayed to the main speaker in the group and although I didn’t play for a long time, I didn’t experience any dropout even after I re-did the group with the Mini as main speaker. I did experience an issue in the second case when I unlinked all the speakers from the mini and the stream stopped.

I suggest that you repeat your tests (ensuring you are airplaying to the group’s main speaker) and raise a ticket to WiiM as soon as you experience the issue so that they can inspect your device logs for clues. I’d also reboot your router before such a test.

Hi all, if you start an audio stream using Airplay to a WiiM device that supports it, you should be able to link that device with other WiiM devices and have the audio playing in both. Just make sure when you press the link button in the WiiM Home app that you do so using the Airplay capable device and not the Ultra.

The WiiM device that you press the link button on becomes the main device of a group, and is the one that has to be Airplay capable. If you're having trouble, please do send in feedback through the app so we can check it out!

EDIT: Damn, Burnside beat me by a minute :(
