Is Wiim moving away from AirPlay?

I currently have a Wiim amp, and am happy with the setup. I planned to purchase a Wiim Amp Pro to expand whole-home capabilities, but was disappointed to learn that it lacks AirPlay. In my household that's a dealbreaker, and was one of the main drivers for selecting the Wiim. I mostly use my Wiim Amp for a turntable, but the quick digital playback via AirPlay is great too.

There's been a lot of speculation online as to why the Amp Pro doesn't have AirPlay, some saying that it was a hardware compatibility issue (with the Ultra and Amp Pro specifically), but this makes me wonder; was that a legitimate mistake, or is Wiim going in the direction of dropping AirPlay support? Respectfully, this would cause me (and I imagine some others) to drop the Wiim platform as I continue to build a whole-home system. I'm just hoping to find a little clarity before investing in a single system.

It make no sense you purchase hifi and use airplay that will give you lossy sound quality. You will save money by just getting Bluetooth since that’s the quality you get from airplay. There are far too many casual listeners that Spotify doesn’t offer loseless because of them.

BT is an option and has been pointed out before, but it does not fully replace AirPlay for Apple Music users. And some say (and may be true) that AirPlay (Apple’s AAC codec version) is actually quite capable. I went back to using Apple Music which, to me and others who heard it, sounds cleaner, woth a wider stage and better separation than Qobuz, even when AirPlay is used vs Qobuz direct connection.

It would be great if they can integrate apple inside wiim app. This will add revenue to Apple portfolio.

Hi all, I don't have anything new to add regarding AirPlay today, but if you're interested in seeing an Apple Music integration, we're always looking for new partners. You could also reach out to them and suggest they look into partnering with us so they know folks are interested: https://www.apple.com/feedback/apple-music.html

Doesn’t Apple want more revenue? They’re here for business to earn money. Why limit themselves to Sonos when they can have others to get more revenue?

Apple have always been "you buy into their system" and it works, Apple is a massive company and people buy into the eco system.

Remember that until it was basically forced upon them, they refused to use USB-C as a standard.

Is there any more color on this.. I have 7 Wiim Devices (a Mix of Pro and Pro Plus and Mini's) for my whole house system. I ordered a Ultra for my main system to move it's pro into another room and just learned it does not support AirPlay, I just assumed the Ultra was going to be a superset of functionality to the Pro Plus not a significantly less functional device. I already filed a return with Amazon. Couple questions:
1. Is this ever going to be supported?
2. Is this going to continue to be supported on the Pro and Pro Plus platform.

I don't want to continue to invest in this whole home audio strategy if it's going to be a dead end and I am just going to have to toss everything and start over. I am tempted to buy another pro plus for that room instead but want to know that Airplay is going to be supported going forward before spending anymore money on what could potentially be a dead end. Honestly spent a half hour googling this, I could not believe this was true, it seems like table stakes for any streamer.

1. We don’t know. There was an initial indication it might be in the future but that’s all gone deadly quiet, and with the Amp Pro not supporting it either, it’s anyone’s guess. The Amazon product description clearly states “This device is incompatible with AirPlay and cannot function as an AirPlay receiver”

2. I see no sign nor reason for WiiM to remove it from existing models which already have it.

You could always group your mini with the Ultra and get it to play what you send the Ultra - or plug the Mini’s optical out (or a similar airplay receiver) into the Ultra.

Raise a ticket to WiiM and they can hopefully give you the official line.

Did you see answer #8?

Cool, I did open a ticket waiting to hear back.. I luckily discovered this before I even opened the box, so I can just return the device.. Hope this does not impact the existing devices.. I finally have my whole house setup the way I wanted it..
Thanks..

Unfortunately the new products no longer have Air Play, and those that do initially could be Airplay receivers and transmitters, Wiim has already removed the Air Play 2 transmitter function, Wiim is increasingly disappointing me, I have Pro Plus devices and Mini, initially they sounded very good, I think the latest updates have decreased the sound quality, each update produces a lot of errors, they removed the Airplay 2 transmitter function, I think the multiroom hi fi function should be a priority, much more than reproduction gain, many people buy wiim products for the number of functions and the ease of multiroom, they ask what new products we want, what they make, I want the functions they have removed to return, what to correct the software and that give priority to the multiroom hifi.
