Hi all,

Newbie here. I recently bought a pro plus in order for it to double up as a CD jukebox. It’s wired up to a Music Fidelity amp (RCA), and in turn to a pair of Linn Kellidh speakers. I am using a WD My Cloud NAS with 4 TB of storage. I have yet to rip CDs to the NAS, though as a test I’ve downloaded 5 CDs onto a USB stick which has been uploaded to the NAS and are easily located. However, when it comes to my Pro Plus communicating with the NAS via Home Music Share, all I get is “searching for your media server.” Both are in a short range of each other and use the same network.
Any advice please?

No he means Plex server.

The assumption being that you have somehow installed the Plex server on WD Cloud but I’d be surprised if that was possible.

What media server options are there for WD Cloud if any?

Maybe it does install on My Cloud

It’s a media server for Video and Music.
Install it
Point it at Music files
Enable DLNA and it should appear in WiiM Home Music Share

There are plenty of examples on the web

Yes I enabled Plex to install on the MyCloud Home NAS, though I can see no way of enabling Plex to accept DLNR. Having Googled this it says that you have to go through settings on the Plex app, only I couldn’t see this

If you have installed Plex server on NAS then go to http://nas_ip_address:32400 and login with the Plex user you will have set up.

The interface is split into 2. An online section - Plex - which you aren’t interested in and your local server. Find the local server bit and look for settings. Towards the bottom is DLNA. You just need to switch thus ON

Then create a Library of type Music and point it at the music folder in the NAS. It will scan the content and you should see some music appear in the web interface.

When it has look in the WiiM app again.

If you add more music to the folder you’ll need to rescan or set an overnight scan.

To be honest I’m not sure that the NAS is working properly. The device is no longer supported by WD. I purchased it from Amazon. I’ll send it back.

I have both Plex and Jellyfin services running on my network. Up until March, DLNA was working well with both of them. Since April update, Plex has dissapeared from Home Music Share view, and Jellyfin is super slow or unresponsive. Latest FW and app haven’t changed the situation for me.

Does Plex appear in a third party controller e.g. BubbleUPnP or mconnect?
When using a third party controller to access Jellyfin, do you see the same performance problems?

EDIT: I've just started a Plex instance and it was discovered immediately by the WiiM Home app. Given that there are a lot of Plex users about, and that I've not seen any recent discovery issues this sounds like an issue with your setup.

I have a mycloud home, it doesn't support DLNA but it has plex server that you can activate - then use plexamp to cast music to the WiiM
In my experience its a bit flaky - I was hoping my WiiM amp would be able to interact with my MyCloud Home the same way that my volumio did but not the case - that and the poor implementation of USB are major downsides to WiiM

I’ve managed to connect the MyCloud home to my desktop Mac, iPhone and iPad, but not to either Plex (states it was offline) or the WiiM. I had it checked out today by a computer guy. He was here for a good couple of hours and tried all options but with limited joy. It’s his opinion that the MyCloud Home device isn’t a music server per se and that’s what’s causing the issues. I’m sending my MyCloud Home back to Amazon and am going to try something else that is specifically a music server to see if that works. It seems that WD are no longer supporting the entry level MyCloud devices and concentrating instead on the higher end business use NAS servers

I got mine primarily to use plex on my TV and music on my volumio Pi4 - it worked really well for that but my (now deceased) Denon AVR couldn't see the music on it (I suspect due to it not supporting DLNA) which was annoying.

I have the same problem with WiiM not seeing the plex server even though it should so I am limited to using plexamp which is flaky in my experience
