Let's talk movies & streaming shows

Highest 2 Lowest - Apple. Denzel Washington. Spike Lee directs another waste of time. Weak storyline, poor acting, dreadful soundtrack.
Agreed. Meant to be a reworking of a Japanese noir movie, but cinematography apart, it didn’t work for me either.

Went to see “On Swift Horses” last night at my local Odeon - low key but still an interesting watch.

We started watching the 'Umbrella Academy’ on Netflix today. I'm not sure what to make of it yet, but one thing is certain: The first two episodes of season 1 were accompanied by a superb selection of music...

Lioness - itvx. CIA/ATF anti-terror squad. Better than the title might suggest. Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman have cameo roles.
Must admit I found that a bit misogynistic, exploitative and gratuitous in places. Not a pleasant watch for me…

True to some extent but nevertheless a cut above the current drivel on Netflix & Prime. And a big plus is there are actually some characters without beards. I can't distinguish when every actor in a film is bearded 😁

I can assure you I wasn’t one of them 🤣🤣

Return of the King - Netflix docu about Elvis. Some great music & a historical perspective. 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Have I mentioned the two part documentary on Billy Joel on Sky/Now in the UK? Enjoyable if long.

And I’m warming to Task with Mark Ruffalo even though it’s gloomily shot and has lots of beards ;)

Don't have Sky Now (originally for political reasons, but increasingly I accept that no longer has any impact, if it ever did 🤔). Watched the Beeb docu on The Dark Side of Thailand, and it's a toss-up in my book between the whole kaboodle sinking under its own weight of overpopulation or a thermonuclear armageddon. The soundtrack should be a blast, though 😎😁

Black Rabbit - Netflix. Some nice cinematography, but yawn 😔
Superb, 8-part series. Nasty, twisted characters and stories. Well told, good actors. I really enjoyed it.

Black Rabbit is not a constant barrage of suspense, but rather a precise interplay of pace and calm. The series grips you when everything escalates and gains depth in the quiet moments in between. It lets you catch your breath, only to strike even harder—frantic, focused, electrifying!

House of Guinness - Netlix. Made by the Peaky Blinder mob. Difficult to judge from first episode but includes an anti-Brit song by the controversial band Kneecap.

I like Guinness 🍻

I’ll see how this goes - was looking forward to it but the first episode hasn’t grabbed me and I find the music quite jarring

Stick with it - better than most of the stuff being released. Two points: some pretty tough soundtrack titles, and did everybody in the 1800s go around effing and blinding at everything all the time 🤔😁?
