Alexander - Making of a god. Netflix docu drama. The historical commentary provided by academics is interesting, but the dramatised scenes are ludicrous, especially as the actors address each other in a mix of middle & upper-class English accents reminiscent of The Crown or Downton Abbey.
 
The Abandons - Netflix. 1850s shenanigans over land & mining wealth, starring Gillian Anderson as heartless matriarch . Sort of grungy Western realism with lots of impressive hats, eloquent dialogue and a night-time cattle stampede. Includes the lethal use of a pitchfork wielded by a 'wronged' woman... and the death of a faithful old pooch called Sweetie 🤔

And this is just Episode 1!

Subsequent episodes continue in the same vein. Particularly noticeable is the frequent use of the f-word, both as an expletive and as an adjective. This is totally anachronistic (as its common use only arose post WW2).
 
World War Z. Starring Brad Pitt in global battle against zombie virus. 100% utter tosh 😜
Must have cost millions of dollars to make and employed thousands of extras for the frenzied zombie hordes.
I suppose some movie moguls somewhere thought this was a good idea....

I remember parts of that being filmed in Glasgow in the streets around our City Chambers which supposedly have a Philadelphia look to them…
 
Maze Runner: the Scorch Trials. Another apocalyptic scenario with zombies (sub-species called 'cranks") and mainly teenagers on the run from an outfit called WCKD (World in Catastrophe: Killzone Experiment Department).
Cameo role by Giancarlo Esposito of Breaking Bad fame. Unfathomable plot and lots of flashlights (?)

I finished the Black Rabbit on Netflix. Bateman has a way of making these dramas (Ozarks) that just wear you down. It's tense and crazy things happen.
 
The War Between the Land and the Sea - BBC iPlayer. Totally daft tongue-in-cheek sci-fi as the Brits (mainly) take on newly discovered marine based comensals. Will diplomacy save the day or will the corporates scupper any deal? 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 vs 🐠🐟
Is this woke politics broadcast by the Beeb? 😁

Caught a bit of this last night while channel hopping.

A Quiet Place - Netflix. A dying hospice patient & her cat (!?) attempt escape through the ruined streets & buildings of New York after an attack by sound-sensitive murderous aliens.

It's a tough task but she meets up with a survivor, who saves the cat by swimming to a rescue boat on the Hudson River. In the final scenes, sadly the woman is left alone in the street playing a portable cassette to the voice of Nina Simone...

Bizarre, yes. Sentimental, yes. Involves pizza, yes. Entertaining, yes.


 
I vaguely recall watching that when it first came out. If I recall, the cat was the best actor ;)
