Local Media Streaming, trying to find the best experience...

I already have meta data & album art from a program j paid for years ago it runs in the background
Ha, I just came back here to say that I'm trialing Symfonium and so far it works, but all my album folders w/o cover.jpg are not auto cloud scraping for this, I think? So right now I'm running Sym connected to my SMB share on my PC with all my flac albums. The interface seems fine and it connects to the Ultra and streams quite nicely.

Mind sharing that program you bought and use for meta data and album art? I'm assuming it runs in like an auto mode and recursively scans the folders and pulls in the files to the root of each album?

Thank you.

If you're not tied to iOS and open to using third-party solutions, Symfonium on Android will give you a MusicStreamer like interface with bit-perfect playback to the Ultra over UPnP.
Symfonium could index your collection from a SMB share but it's much more capable if used with a compatible server.
Doing the trial, so far so good. Just wondering what "better functionality" I would gain using one of their compatible servers vs just direct SMB to my PC. I have noticed album folders w/o cover.jpg are not pulling automatically from the web.

Thank you.

I would say:
  • Speed of indexing
  • Audio (data) isn't routed via the phone (UPnP requires a http server which Symfonium would need to host when indexing a SMB share)
  • Multi-device/user

I believe Jellyfin, Emby and Plex all have the ability to pull metadata and album artwork from online sources. I think I have them installed so if I get a chance I'll take a look tomorrow.

Okay I understand now, just better to not have to stream through the phone. So when I go to manage media provider and add another I do see quite a few. Of Plex, Emby and Jellyfin which might be the most direct for my use-case. I installed Plex Server and Plex Amp several weeks back but that system is now retired, so I would do a new install. I'm assuming for integration with Sym I would only need the plex server?

Thank you.

I wouldn't use a solution where the files were being served by the phone, but I realise that not everyone feels the same - mostly AirPlay users ;-)

Yes you would only need the server.

Whilst I don't have much experience with Plex, Emby or Jellyfin (I use a docker based solution that relies on local metadata) I would advise to at least try Emby as:
  • I've seen numerous Plex issues on the Symfonium forum
  • Plex appears to be struggling and doesn't have the best reputation
  • Plex just isn't a very good music server (PlexAmp is better, but mostly because of the "Sonic Analysis" related features)
With that said, if you don't care about retaining favourites/playlists/playback history then it's easy to switch between providers in the future.

I'm starting to like Symfonium :)
Yes it's a very special app!

They you go
PerfectTUNES https://share.google/zLdWV6Nkb6XHVXN2o

What you talking about just click on it lol

I guess he's simply asking why use an interim URL and not the direct one? https://www.dbpoweramp.com/Help/PerfectTUNES/

Regardless I clicked it and me and my Compy 286 is still working normally so that's good. I'm interested thanks for posting.

Question about PerfectTunes, can it restructure Albums/tracks into a rational/normalized naming standard of sorts?

I've been reading about beets and it seems VERY powerful at doing all the things PerfectTunes can do but also restructures to a normal "good" naming standard.

Thank you

So right now I only stream Pandora and Amazon Music, and I'm perfectly happy with the baked-in apps for this on the Ultra control app. With Roon, I really don't want to complicate with unnecessary layers/duplicates but if roon app can organize my local flac music library like MusicStream can then I'm all in.

Thanks.
You can try it free for 30 days. Might be worth a try. I've never looked back.
