I have some important questions and the answers will influence my decison, here goes:-

  1. Can the Wiim Amp Ultra be used in multi-room setup reliably?
  2. What is he maximum number zones (Wiim Amp Ultras) can one incorporate in the case where each Amp Ultra with be hard wired to a !0GB switch via cat-6?
  3. Can Spotify be run from within the Wiim Home App?
  4. Using the Wiim Home App, can I define individual zones example: Living Room, Kitchen, Master Bedroom, Whole House ?
  5. Can I set multiple alarms (tracks) to be played at certain times throughout the day and this is continued everyday?
  6. I intend using passive on-wall stereo speakers and a powered sub for each zone. Is there any popping sound when the Wiim amp wakes up?
  7. Does the Wiim Amp Ultra go into sleep mode when not in use as it has no on/off button?
  8. Has such a system been tested for reliability?

Please feel free to provide input, I'd love to hear from individuals who have tried this.

1. I believe so
2. Not heard of any limit
3. No, you need to use Spotify Connect from its app
4. The WiiM app does have the concept of persistent groups
5. Again, I believe so but perhaps @Wiimer is better placed to answer that as I believe they use alarms quite a bit
6. User experience (and tolerance ;) ) seems to vary on that - try a group search for "Amp Ultra pop"
7. yes, it has a configurable standby time and some report it quietly pops when doing so (again that should crop up in the search in 5.)
8. I guess WiiM have done such tests but I don't recall anything formally being published

Hopefully others can chip in on your questions - and my responses ;)

I believe so too.
At least in my home, I can reliably stream to multiple rooms using five WiiM devices, including the Amp Ultra.

Not heard of any limit too.
How many units do you plan to install?

  1. Can Spotify be run from within the Wiim Home App?
No, you need to use Spotify Connect from its app.

However, you can play Spotify using the preset buttons on the WiiM Remote or the WiiM app. In this case, you will be automatically connected to Spotify.

Yes.

  1. Can I set multiple alarms (tracks) to be played at certain times throughout the day and this is continued everyday?
Yes, you can set up to 32 alarms per device. That’s probably more than you’ll ever need. Alarms can be set to go off every day, or you can choose to have them active only on specific days of the week.

However, only the leader device can set alarms for a group. Alarms set on follower devices within the group will not play.

You can also set alarms using Alexa or Google Home routines.

I don't hear any popping noises on my WiiM Amp. I do hear slight popping noises on the Amp Pro and Amp Ultra.

As @Burnside mentioned, it seems to vary from person to person.

  1. Does the Wiim Amp Ultra go into sleep mode when not in use as it has no on/off button?
Yes. It has an auto-standby feature. Also, pressing the power button on the remote will force the device into sleep and turn off the screen.

  1. Has such a system been tested for reliability?
I think so.

Yes.
