Music scratches / TIDAL Max

Hello community.

I'm currently running a Wiim Pro Plus on a Rotel A11 amplifier. I listen to music on Tidal. On a new album by Peter Gabriel, where the playback quality is specified as MAX, there is distortion that becomes noticeable as loud scratching in the speaker. I also noticed this with other songs in MAX quality.

Can someone tell me what could be causing this?

Thank you.

If the problem doesn't affect other sources, you could do these things (not in a particular order) and take conclusions:
-Try the same song with Qobuz, without subscription it gives you 30 seconds listening.
- check in WiiM settings, if there's a sample frequency forced on
- Try to lower maximum WiiM level by a little

Do you use room correction or other EQ or pre-gain?
I was just about to ask the same, but wasn't sure how that fitted with the implication that this only happens with MAX files. Although max seems to be anything above 44.1/16
I believe that's what @merifon was implying with "Try to lower maximum WiiM level by a little", i.e. reduce the volume limit.

Yes, it's a bit shooting in the dark.

If used wisely, MAX masters could or even should potentially have rather more headroom to 0 dBFS, but you never know ...

Exactly...
I sometimes experience a similar behavior with 88.2KHz and Dirac inserted only but this regardless the source, WiiM or Bluos. In this case it's an Idiosyncrasy by the NAD dac with that specific frequency and the mentioned Peter Gabriel's album it's not.

I have problem with some Tidal max songs. They are total quite, no Sound at all.
Are there some on that have same problem?
Welcome.

I think we also need to know how you are playing these songs.
This is a pro plus thread - is this issue on a pro plus?
What wiim output are you using, e.g. analog (doubtful), coax, optical, usb if ultra (or amp, but also doubtful).
Assuming an external dac, which one?

You say some max songs - what does the wiim app show for sample rate for these? e.g. is it always / only 192khz songs.

There are a lot of songs on that list - you need to be more specific.
Having no sound for certain songs with analog out is most unusual.
i'd therefore suggest using the ..More option in the app to send feedback.

Hello, all songs in that playlist is quite in my (2) pro plus, installed in different networks and it dosent matter from mobiles or pc's.

All plays fine for me. Both from the Tidal app and from WiiM Home App.

Even starting much faster from the WiiM Home App.

Did you try the WiiM Home App?

I skipped through the first 10 or so (until I got to Mariah Carey ;)) via tidal connect to my pro (not plus) outputting via optical and every single one of them played fine.

Are you saying that not a single song on that playlist plays with sound for you, neither via analog out nor optical out?
But that lots of other music does work ok?

Some of the songs in the playlist appear to be duplicates of the same track, does this have anything to do with the lack of sound? No, it may not be related at all.

Hello all friends, I have a playlist containing around 300 tracks ("Feelings 1"), when I come to a quite song I save it in "trasiga låtar".
I have other MAX songs from the "Feelings 1" that play just fine.

When I chose to play the songs to my other streamer (CXN v2), all songs work fine.

Can you see if they have anything in common?
Like sample rate or bits.

I don't have any issues playing them.

And: Did you try the WiiM Home app?

Not necessarily as a permanent fix (but why not if it works?) but in the first place to help diagnosing the issue.

I use the home app and thats the same problem.

I erased the tidal app on the pc and played in "website mode" and In that mode it will not work with TIDAL Connect, so its Cromecast instead.
When do play with Cromecast the song will automatic be degraded from MAX to HIGH and also work fine.
