My WiiM Pro Plus 2nd sample test

maybe on pcb v3? :D I have galvanic isolation in my coax in of my dac. I would go for the pro but I am thinking to add coax cable from qed : https://www.qed.co.uk/performance-digital-audio.html. I think @Brantome has it with chord c link. I will use either this or qed or supra trico. Do all of these fit in pro? I am also thinking to use supra cat 8.1 ethernet cable: https://www.av-connection.com/?PGr=8394 .
Yeah, I think it’s a chord c - it was just thrown in by my dealer when I bought my amp, I didn’t specifically go and buy it :)

the impluse transformers have been rather generalized for a while on the dacs..
but keeping the precaution on the source side is not stupid..
especially as their quality now, if we do not exaggerate in the resolutions is such, that even if doubled, it is not so sensitive...
It all depends on use cases. There are threads on RME forum about fully floating setups when galvanic isolation has negative consequences for some headphones.

Guess your concern about size of coax cable might push you back towards the Plus? You might have better peace of mind knowing you’ll have one thing less to worry about despite the perceived issues raised earlier.

What I do not understand (and I did not dive deep) is why buying a Plus instead of the "old" Pro when it is intended to use it with an external DAC. Any advantage?
I thought for an "insane" use, based essentially on its better ADC..
Since I'm still deciding if take a NAD C389 with Dirac or an Yamaha RN800 with YPAO or even a Flex mini dsp to put between pre and amplifier, in order to correct some room nodes, I was thinking to put a WiiM Pro plus on "tape monitor" bus of my actual preamp and use it's analog input and output to do some PEQ corrections even on analogue inputs, like phono or other ancient stuffs. Overall volume will be still controlled by preamp and PEQ section of WiiM will correct all analogue and digital inputs. Pro plus has better ADC, so the process will start in a better way. Eventually, an external DAC could be still used, if already available...
Up on results, I will decide how to follow on.

I will get the pro and get a suitable coax cable :)

Nothing about eventually sound differences, but I tried the following cables with my Pro and all fit and worked well. Not really cheap, but the WiiMs deserve good manufactured cables!

Furutech FX Alpha
Audioquest Forest
Supra Cables EFF-ISL
Thanks Achim!

Btw here is a technical review of Wiim Pro from a reputable source in Greece. You can translate (since it is in Greek) : https://www.avmentor.gr/reviews/2023/wiim_pro_2.htm
given the spdif output measurements...
we can invite wiim in future revision versions to take care of these outputs...
qualitative buffering efforts (and a slightly higher level... we avoid being below 0.5vpp)

I don’t understand what you mean. Can you elaborate ?

Post in thread 'WiiM Pro Plus - Review & Measurements (Streamer)' https://audiosciencereview.com/foru...view-measurements-streamer.47020/post-1769863

a part of onlyoneme's discussions-measures on the digital outputs ignored here...rather important...with significant impacts... (but also the fact that there are far too many shortcuts on what the presumed quality of a digital source just observed at the output... of a DAC etc... huge technical bias)

A huge thank you to @onlyoneme and @VintageFlanker for their excellent service in testing the WiiM devices, and a relevant article on testing from Archimago:

Thx :)

And also for introducing my favorite blogger's website. I have great respect for him for such sentences:
"Just because some companies advertised based on a narrow set of measurements to catch the consumer's attention doesn't mean nobody measured products more broadly or understood the performance more holistically."

I have a pcb revision 2 wiim pro plus. Is it a pariah compared to the later / fixed versions ?
The fix implemented after mine was for what in particular ?

Very impressed by your measurements. Have you compared the bit perfect digital output via coax and toslink using the stock PSU? You indicated that you used a very high quality PS for your measurements. Just curious if the power supply would make a difference for the digital board.

Depends on what you mean exactly. In terms of being bit perfect for digital data sent to the receiver - both digital outputs remain bit perfect for the stock PSU.
When comparing low frequency components of the analog carrier over the coaxial output, for the WiiM Pro:

What your measurements suggest/mean is that if one is using the Wiim Pro or Plus as a digital streamer only, a high quality linear supply should make no difference vs the stock SMPS. If so, I should stop trying to improve my Wiim Pro Plus with a better power supply! Thanks!
