Hello, I'm new here in the forum and have a question of understanding about the Ultra. I connected the Ultra to my AVR. The Ultra serves as a preamplifier. The preamp part of my AVR is bypassed by this, right? And what about the audysee room correction, is it also bypassed? Greetings from Germany, Holger

Hi welcome,

It depends on your AVR.

If your AVR has pure direct or direct mode, many models can bypass the DSP (Audyssey); Denon and Marantz may be able to bypass the DAC as well.

thank you for your message. The AVR is a Denon AVR X 4000. I want to use the Ultra as a preamp and only use the power amplifier of the AVR, I think that's better in terms of sound.? Is this automatically the case when I connect the Ultra? Audysee is not so important to me because I want to use the room correction of the Ultra.

The AVR-X4000 manual states.

The following settings are not available in Direct Playback and Pure Direct Playback modes.
  • Tone Control
  • Restorer
  • MultEQ
  • Dynamic EQ
  • Dynamic Volume
  • Audyssey LFC

Therefore, you can bypass these features by turning on the AVR's (Pure) Direct mode. Also, it would be a good idea to connect Ultra's Line-out to AVR's CD-in. (You can also try the Optical connection.)

Yes, that's exactly what I want to do.
Wiim as a preamp, AVR as a power amplifier.
This way, the Wiim takes over the tone control and room correction.
Thanks for your support (y)

No. You have option of sending audio to your AVR either digitally or analogue. You won't be bypassing the AVR pre amp. Set the Ultra to fixed output.

You can use room correction with digital or analogue sources, depends if you feel your AVR does a good job.

Or use the one in the Ultra, where you can tweak settings.

But don't have two room correction systems running at once. Disable one.

The Ultra is connected to the Denon AVR via an RCA (Cinch) cable. How do I set the Wiim to fixed output (Screenshot or similar )?

Connect it to CD input, then use the AVR's volume control. There is fixed output in the wiim app.

Do not plug in a fixed level source directly to a power amplifier

The volume can be fixed by setting it like this in the Audio Settings.

The analog input sensitivity of the AVR-X4000 is 200mV.
Therefore, I recommend starting the line out level of the WiiM at 200mV for RCA connections.

Also, I personally prefer not to fix the output of the Ultra, but to fix the volume of the AVR as high as possible. (The volume is controlled by Ultra.)

Always turn down the AVR volume before testing.

And what happens when you switch inputs? and your other devices are fixed and it's set to 00db.

When using Ultra's RC, it is recommended to turn off the fixed outputs and turn down the volume a little, or turn down the volume limit to about 90%.

AVR's don't have a power amplifier input.

Also if he has other inputs to the AVR, then a bad idea.

hahahahaha

Do you even know what a AVR is?

It's not a power amplifier.
