Oddly low bitrate via Plex through WiiM Home app

Hi folks,

With reference to my previous post, I've hooked up my WiiM Ultra to an Audio Pro C10 MkII and have been playing music over Plex directly through the WiiM Home app.

For some reason, the bitrate of the music I'm playing seems off. For instance, a 2003 Hybrid SACD rip of Peter Gabriel's So shows up as 24-bit/88.2KHz over Cambridge Audio's Streammagic app with my Evo One, but only shows as 16-bit/48KHz 209kbps in the WiiM Home app when used with the Ultra and C10 MK II. It seems to do this for a range of my FLAC files, and I'm unsure as to why...

Any help with this would be appreciated.

All the best.

Are you linking the Ultra, and C10 MK II as a group, as that is currently limited to 16-bit 48kHz as far as I'm aware, but other forum members will correct me if this is incorrect.

Connected to each other via the bundled line in cables with the Ultra, with audio set to line in on both devices, I believe... The C10 is used as a 'dumb' speaker as it were, purely to save space on a countertop :)

Could be as @QuarryHunslet says re linked devices playback being restricted to 16/48, but there’s also a bug with Plex with the latest Ultra firmware where FLAC files are being downsampled to lossy mp3 (as indicated by the bitrate you show) as the Ultra is incorrectly declaring its lack of support for lossless FLAC. WiiM are working on a fix

Is the C10 a WiiM Edition version?

So you’re not linking them in the WiiM app? Your description of both being set to line in is a little confusing as Plex will be delivering its audio over the network to at least one of the devices. Do you mean you have both cabled together, but one with line out feeding the other’s line in?

Ah, so just sit tight and wait it out? No problem if so.

If it's any consolation, casting over Google Cast to the Ultra via Plexamp directly doesn't seem to show a lower bitrate.

Essentially, yes. Plex is delivering its audio to the Ultra :)
