Optical In Auto Sensing not working

Hi,

I use Ultra with TV attached to HDMI input and Belkin Soundform Connect to Optical In. I have recent (250) firmware installed, devices has updated just recently.

I have both HDMI and Optical auto sensing option on, CEC option is off in WHA app.

I have following issues:

1. No matter what is current input selected, device in on or in standby mode, when I select AirPlay (Belkin) on my iPhone there is no activity on Ultra (like no switch to Optical In).
2. When I use Airplay and switch to Optical In manually there is sound as expected, I can change volume using phone etc.
3. When I stop AirPlay and want to use TV there is no auto switching to HDMI, unit kind of frezzes to Optical In. I can resume AirPlay with Optical being once enabled (so when I pause Airplay and than resume with Optical In) but I does not change from Optical to other input automatically, especially to HDMI ( I have to check Ethernet). Changing to other input manually (like Ethernet or HDMI) solves situation.
4. When there is Ethernet input used (Tidal/Quobuz etc) and I stop music and then turn tv on or tv is already on, Ultra switches to HDMI as expected so it works with Ethernet->HDMI but Optical In-> HDMI does not work.

I once rebooted device to check if helps - it seemed to work but only for like one day and now it behaves as described above.

In would like to kindly ask other users whether you use both HDMI and Optical In or even maybe you use Belking AirPlay device and you have similar problems. I don't know what is the reason (problem with Ultra firmware) or the reason is Belkin but I would be grateful if other could share their experience or advice what to do.

I consider Ultra as great piece of gear, but being in iOS ecosystem, AirPlay might be useful in certain use case scenarios and auto sensing is very convenient option but I does not work es expected.

BTW ticket sent to Support like 5 days age (even on previous firmware), no response yet.

Best regards,

When the Ultra input is not HDMI, Optical autosensing works fine. As far as I know, HDMI to Optical autosensing does not work. This is also true for other WiiM devices.

If Wi-Fi to Optical autosensing does not work, there is probably a issue somewhere in your system.

These two toggles must be enabled in the audio input screen.

At the very least, automatic switching from Optical to HDMI will work if "Auto-sensing of HDMI" is switched on. Make sure that the ARC/CEC settings on the TV are also enabled.

Please check the following again.

-Ultra optical auto-sensing is enabled in the WiiM app.
-Similarly, the 2 HDMI toggles are enabled.

If these toggles are on, try switching them on/off several times before switching them on.

If these do not resolve the problem, disconnect the power cables of all devices connected to the Ultra. Then reconnect cables (mainly HDMI and optical cable) and connect the power cables.

It is also recommended to reinstall the WiiM app just in case.

Hi,

@Wiimer thank you for your time and your response. I appreciate you effort to help.

Unfortunately it seems that for me Optical In Autosing function in my Ultra does not exist, meaning not working no matter of scenarios. And when it is selected, return to HDMI input has to be done manually.

Today I tried to play music via Belkin AirPlay with Ethernet Input as currently selected and there was on action on Ultra (no auto switch).

Optical In works only if I switch input manually to Optical, then I can hear sound normally. I tried AirPlay on YouTube and Spotify with other input selected (Ethernet for example), and it played on Phone (like I see time counting on player) but no sound from Ultra (because input has not switched automatically).

I don't know what can be wrong in my system (TV and Belkin attached to Ultra), wired connection to net, recent firmware. Tried to switch to different optical cable, increase pre-gain on Optical but nothing changed. On WHA app both HDMI and Optical Sensing Option in on. I don't want to have option "Automaticaly play on Wim when TV is on" enabled coz I don't need it and I don't think it has any relation to my issues with Optical In.
BTW you wrote "When the Ultra input is not HDMI, Optical autosensing works fine. As far as I know, HDMI to Optical autosensing does not work. This is also true for other WiiM devices" - so does it mean than HDMI to Optical sensing issue is unfixable ?

Any other ideas maybe related to iOS or Belkin ? everything works fine expect Optical In issues. With this function Belkin is kind of useless (or less comfortable for sure).

Any other advices, maybe from @RyanWithWiiM or @WiiM Support especially as I sent ticket in this matter and I think it I issue with Ultra as such (however I might be wrong).

It's Strange...

Can you tell us what version of the WiiM app and Ultra firmware you have?
This is the latest version.

Ultra firmware is v5.2.723250
The WiiM app version is 3.2.7

I have tested with 3 WiiMs (Ultra, Amp Ultra and Amp) and automatic HDMI to Optical switching did not work on all of them. It is possible that my testing is not good enough, but perhaps it is currently not possible.

Do you have other devices that can be connected to the Optical input of the Ultra? TV, WiiM device, etc.

If you have any, it is worth trying to connect them to the Ultra to see if the auto-sensing works.

At the moment, the only other thing I can suggest is a factory reset of the device.
