Optical/spdif dropouts and cracks

Hi guys, I've been searching info around but I can't find this exact problem, I hope you can guide me.

During playback I'm having random audio dropouts (very very short) and very ocasionally (1 or 2 times max in an hour album) a cracking sound similar to a vinyl.

What I mean with dropouts is not silence, is like part of the sound is missing, but playback didnt cut, a little jump, using a text for example, instead of "SOUND" I get "SUND", not "S UND", its very subtle but you can hear it.

I have a CD player connected via SPDIF IN, and the Wiim goes to an external DAC (Fiio R2R Warmer) using the SPDIF OUT.

What I already tried:

Connecting the CD player to the DAC directly, and it works ok all the time.
Replacing the optical cables, both spdif IN and OUT. Makes no difference.
Connecting the Wiim to the DAC using the USB OUT, makes no difference.

Audio settings:

Optical audio output resolution: Fixed at 24/96
Fade-In & Fade-Out: ON
Room correction: ON
Optical Auto Sensing: ON

Since the problem persists when using USB out instead of SPDIF, and I don't have dropouts or cracks when using Spotify or playing FLAC files, I belive the problem is located at the SPDIF IN.

What do you think?

If it happens consistently at the same point in a song it might be digital clipping. Try turning down the output level on the WiiM and see if the problem goes away. A discussion on the topic is here though the thread title is misleading:

What happens if you change the optical resolution to 16/44.1 without fixing it?

Hi! I always have the wiim set to 70% of volumen.

The cracks happens randomly, and at quiet or loud parts :/

Thanks for the link, Im gonna check It :)

Nope, Im listening to a CD with the settings you said, and it just did it again :(

EDIT: it seems to help, 1 hour of listening, no cracks, only one "jump".

I don't recall having the same problem with my Ultra's optical input..

I recommend submitting a ticket via the feedback section in the WiiM app.
(WiiM home > More > Feedback)

Your device logs will be sent, which will help resolve the issue.

I was trying to find it is was just a setup problem, I may be doing something wrong, but seems like I will have to open a ticket yes. Thanks ;)

Have you tried to check if the optical input is fitting correctly and that both cable snd Connector is clean? It looks like a bad optical connection.

I did, and to be 100% sure that the issue is not a cable I bought 2 new ones, for the input and output.

But now that you say about the connector... I'm gonna check right now! Thanks!

EDIT: just checked and both are super clean.
