Random drops outs and, or reboots using USB out. What worked for me.

About a month ago I started using the WiiM amp for USB out. The connection from WiiM amp USB port was not reliable. There were dropouts and reboots that did’t correlate with any specific circumsstances.

I use a FOSI Audio D2 DAC dongle and its input is a USB C female port. The D2's analog output connects to a Yamaha RX-385 receiver using 3.5mm to RCA coaxial cables. By the way, the FOSI D2 is excellent.

When all the USB cables/adapters met the USB 3.0 or greater specs, all the dropouts and reboots stopped. USB 3.0 and above cables are easy to source. Just be sure the device is certified for at least 3.0. USB A to USB C adapters are harder to source, but they exist.

My WiiM amp USB A port does not make snug connection with any cable or adapter I own (and I tried many over the past month). It's easy to loose the connection or have a reliable connection if the WiiM amp is nudged or moves. Cable tidiness counts. Only use a USB A, M-F cable as the first connection.

USB cable lengths over ~9 ft (3 m or less) can result in signal degradation. For longer USB cable runs, USB active cables amplify the signal. I avoided long USB runs, but I would be only use an active cable that supports at least USB 3.0.

It’s possible someone will point out the WiiM amp USB out is USB 2.0 and 3.0 or higher cable is unnecessary. In this case I would just recommend only using cables and adapters that use high-quality connector hardware.

Hi @WWH, Thanks for sharing! Hopefully this helps people out if they're having trouble. I haven't seen this come up myself, but I wonder if it might be an issue with the connection on that device in particular. I'd be curious if you'd tried replacing the WiiM Amp, or if others in the community have seen the same behavior. In any case, I'm glad you've found a solution that worked for you!
