I just wanted to check the WiiM Amp's USB is an input that'll work with a PC's USB and also if I can use the auto input sensing to auto switch between streamng and the USB and if the volume can be controlled from the sound settings on the PC.

My current set up has just broken, I was using a WiiM mini into an interface via along with my PC in via USB, the interface's software meant I could create a mix so whichever was playing sound it'd go straight to the amp without me needing to find a remote or switch inputs.

Bit off the wall question ... if anyone has any idea how it'd sound compared to an SMSL AO 200 Amp as I'd sell that to partially fund the WiiM Amp, the alternative is buy another interface and stay with my current setup.

Any input much appreciated!

No, the usb on WiiM devices is for usb media support and usb audio out. It can’t be used as usb audio in from an external device like a pc

Not the reponse I was hoping for but thnk you for that and has stopped me buying the "wrong" product for my use so much appreciated 😁

Do you happen to know if the Ultra is the same as this could be an alternative with my exisiting amp if not? Although I think I know what the answer probably is.

Does anybody know whether the USB port on the amp could theoretically be used as a direct connection to the PC with a firmware update, or would this be impossible due to the electronic structure of the device?

You mean as a usb dac input into the wiim rather than its current usb out functionality which was added by such an update?
I assume not as I don't recall wiim ever suggesting this was possible or that they might investigate this from other posts asking this.

That's the direction I was thinking in.

Without any knowledge about these things, i had asked myself, if it could be possible, to make this USB port useable as another digital input for PC by a software change (Update).

When asked previously if the USB could be used for audio in (I think there might be a faq somewhere that says it ;) ), WiiM have simply said no, rather than their more optimistic “we might consider it for a future update”. I’d not hold my breath so would purchase a converter of the type @d6jg mentioned.

@Witterings - if you really want to connect PC to WiiM then use a USB -> Optical converter such as this and connect to WiiM Optical IN

NOTE
There is also an identical looking device that works the other way around for recording to PC

I did try a Behringer U-CONTROL UCA222 which does pretty mucjh the same thing, tehfrustrating part about it was you couldn't then adjust the volume from the PC, I'm guessing as it was jus sending data i.e. 1's & 0's and I#m guessing the one you linked to will be the same.

I have a Behringer UCA202 (exactly the same as a 222) attached to the PC I am typing on which is connected by RCA to an amp on my desk - I can control volume no problem. If you connect digitally - USB to Optical - it is a different matter. The output may well be fixed level in that case but you would be able to control via the WiiM App.

There is no need for me at the moment, I just asked out of interest.

I want to build a new PC in the near future anyway and will probably just buy a board with an optical output.

Currently I still content myself with the cinch plugs of the Amp Pro and even with that I have a more than good sound, not to mention the Ethernet connection.

I have a Behringer UCA202

Do these devices from Behringer work properly? I read somewhere, that adapters or interfaces can sometimes cause difficulties/inaccuracies during conversion (crackling/dropouts).

They work pretty well up to 16/48 but you do get what you pay for.
A higher cost USB Audio Interface will support higher resolution and generally has better ADC and DAC chips on board.
For digitising Vinyl I used to use a UCA 202 but have upgraded to a Behringer-U-PHORIA-UMC204HD but there are devices available at 4 or 5 times this price.
