Resolved: WiiM Sound Unable to Connect with Alexa

For those trying to set up a new WiiM Sound, we've identified an issue with the Alexa integration that the Amazon Alexa team is working on right now. This problem is preventing WiiM Sound units from being linked with Alexa, and can cause Alexa voice commands not to work on previously set up WiiM Sound units.

We'll let everyone know when this is resolved, and we appreciate your patience while this is sorted out.

Thanks for the heads up. Useful to know if there are issues that could be impacting users, rather than us having to respond with the usual “please raise a ticket via the more/feedback section of the WiiM Home app so WiiM can inspect your device logs”… 😜🤣

Has the issue with the device name displayed in the Alexa app been resolved?

This could cause confusion during the initial setup.
(Mine is currently working properly with Alexa.)

That's part of the problem that caused a bigger issue, as I understand it :) It's being worked.

The issue with Alexa not being able to be added to the WiiM Sound is now resolved!

To add Alexa, open the WiiM Home app, select Browse at the bottom and at the bottom of that screen you'll find Voice services to add Alexa.

Still need a fix for the name Alexa uses - still says mine is a WiiM Pro but that’s apparently waiting for some cloud changes by Amazon. At least it’s a step forward - it previously showed up as a Mini 2…

Alexa should be correctly recognizing them as a WiiM Sound, but I don't think that'll update on existing devices. If the name is important to you, you could try removing it from both the Alexa app and disable Alexa from the device in your WiiM app, then re-add it.

Tried that to no avail, might try a full factory reset tomorrow. Even deregistered it from my amason account as well.

Support did say in response to my ticket only yesterday: “We’d like to let you know that the Amazon Alexa login for WiiM Sound is currently using a temporary product identifier while Amazon works on updating the correct one on their cloud service. This does not affect functionality, and you can continue using Alexa as usual. Once Amazon completes the update, WiiM Sound will appear with its proper product name. At that time, you will need to log in to Alexa again for the changes to take effect.”

Cool, maybe there's one more fix coming to change the name properly. I might have missed an email on it...
