search filter by audio resolution

I would like to search music filtering by the audio resolution. i.e. search a song or an album from Tidal only in 24bit.
Don’t know if Tidal allows that in searches, so if they don’t, there’s little WiiM can do about it.

Personally I found after a while that the numbers don’t really matter that much, but the quality of the source material did :)

You're right about a poor recording, but when it comes to digital audio, similar to digital images, numbers do matter on a good recording, obviously, assuming you have a good Hi-Fi chain.

With digital images it only really matters when you zoom in. 24/96 sounds exactly the same as 16/44.1 to everyone if they are honest about it. Any difference is in the mastering used.

Rgarding Tidal functionalities, the Wiim app displays the bitrate of songs while playing. I hope this feature is sufficient to allow hiding or displaying individual songs or albums.

If you're right, then hundreds of engineers are wasting their time working on better DACs, new lossless protocols and other innovations. We should warn them before it's too late!

Displaying info during playback doesn’t mean there’s a filtering feature based on a track’s properties, so referring back to your original query, there isn’t a means to tell the WiiM app to skip 16 bit tracks and only play 24 bit. You could however tell it to resample all tracks to a specific bit depth and sample rate (but not separately) but that of course comes with its own caveats.

ok, I had a great idea: is possible to display that info on search results?

I am sure they already know but the companies they work for are quite happy to take money from you.

Do an experiment. Take a local 24/96 file and convert it to 16/44 and listen.

Digital audio is nothing like digital images. This analogy does not apply, despite what the marketing tries to assert.
I am sure we can all think of a major reason why the industry wants to convince us that ever increasing resolution sounds better. If it was really true why would they need to use different less compressed mastering for the high res tracks?

It's interesting that some "Community curators" tell me that audio resolution doesn't matter, I'm asking myself why I've bought the Wiim Pro, maybe a good cd player is better!

A good cd player can indeed sound fantastic, and if you are using the pro's analog out then I would highly recommend you get a dac as, imo, the pro's analog out is easily bettered.

But back to the point, Tidal within the wiim app has a Hires Albums and Hires Playlists section.

Lot's of forum users want WiiM to produce a CD player 🤣
By the way a fair number of Tidal high res tracks are upsampled from CD quality anyway.

It’s been mentioned before that the major streaming services’ catalogs are largely comprised of CD quality tracks, something approaching 90%, so if even a proportion of the high res tracks are upsampled, that 90% is even bigger.

Don’t twist what I say - I said the quality of the source mattered more. Being a “community curator” doesn’t preclude me expressing my own personal opinion or relating my own experience.

sorry, I thought this was the forum for "Feature Requests for WiiM Pro & Pro Plus", I appreciate personal opinions, but i don't think this is the right place.

Even though I reckon the same master will sound the same on CD or Hi Res I recently bought an album on Bandcamp and chose the 24/96 to download as it was the same price as 16/44 🤣🤷‍♂️
